After many years of hankering for some Naim equipment (long story) I finally purchased a Naim system (rather second hand but in good nick).
The preamp is a NAC 112 and the remote is a Narcom 3.
When I press “Tuner” on the remote, to change from CD to tuner, nothing happens.
I have to get up and switch inputs via the front panel push buttons.
Is this normal? Would a different remote operate the change or do I have to go to the pre-amp each time?
I also have a i-Com (?) this does not work at all. Is this the wrong remote for my elderly system?
The tuner button puts the remote into tuner mode ie to operate a tuner. To change inputs, press the preamp button and then the number of the input you want, eg 2.
The i-com is probably broken. It was a very cheap “get you going” remote that was offered with the entry-level 5i amp and CD player. So much had been spent where it counted for best performance that there was basically no budget left for a remote handset, however, it was felt better to offer something rather than ask customers to stump up more money for a proper Narcom straight away.
As HH advises above, to change input on the Pre-amp, be sure the remote PRE softkey is selected and then press the number of the input required.
Thank you. Some precise and helpful replies. How do I know which input is which number? Is CD input one, Tuner input 2 and so on to Aux 2 being input 6?
Does anyone know what breaks on the i-Com? If it is just the IR LED I could try changing it.
Exactly. Tuner is input 2, but you may have connected to a different one of course.
Thanks HH, I have put the tuner (a Sansui network tuner with DAB) into TUNER. So PRE then 2 should do it.
STOP PRESS: It works! press PREAMP then 2 shifts to TUNER then 1 shifts to CD etc. Brilliant!
Thank you all for your help.
