Havnt been able to find much information and no real pictures to compare with.
I have a Naxo 2. It’s setup with 4 NAF boards and internally looks in great condition.
Id like to connect it to a Nac42 (not a .5 version) via a SNAPS. The amp being driven is a nap160 and I guess I’ll start looking out for a second one. (Speakers are SBL’s).
Is it a case of SNAPS socket 2 into the Nac42 and SNAPS socket 3 in the Naxo? Then sockets 1 and 2 on the Naxo to the respective amps?
With this older Naxo it doesn’t look like it would be able to take power from a Hicap? I understand that Naim/class a can modify the 42 into a 42.5 to use a Hicap instead but then I guess the Naxo would be the issue. The board is very different to that of an olive 2-4 Naxo I have. Hoping that the combo is possible of 42/snaps/naxo2/nap160 X2
I wasn’t aware that a snaps can power two boxes ie the 42 and a Naxo. Maybe @Richard.Dane can advise here. If you were to get an early Hicap it has both single and dual rail rail outputs, so you could use it to power the 42, leaving the snaps for the Snaxo, or vice versa.
The CB SNAPS can power two items - for example a single-rail pre-amp and a NAT101 or else a single-rail pre-amp and an early single-rail NAXO. So this should be possible for the OP.
A couple of points worth raising here - firstly, we cannot offer the 42 to 42.5 upgrade any more, it required a complete main PCB change & we haven’t had those for years now.
Secondly, what you propose won’t work, as there are no signal links between sockets 2 & 3 in the SNAPS (as depicted on the rear label).
You would need to put a SNAIC4 between sockets 1 & 4 to make that link. Which, due to the increased length of cable might cause the preamp to become unstable.
No harm in trying it though, any instabilty would be immediately apparent.
