I have a NC system. I generally put it in standby at the end of the day. However the next day it sometimes doesn’t come out of standby, with the Naim app. I have to manually press the power button on the 333. I am not concerned about power consumption but I don’t want to burn out the LED’s. How essential is it to put the system in standby? The equipment is at the opposite end of the room, so walking over is difficult. I would rather use the Naim app.
In my humble opinion we should all be trying to minimise power consumption for environmental reasons. But if you aren’t bothered, there is no problem leaving the equipment switched on all the time.
I leave mine on all the time. My subwoofer manufacturer Rel openly states in the documentation that leaving it on all the time (vs standbye) not only sounds better but is better for the life of the equipment as well.
Have you seen the consumption of data centers lately? it’s ridiculous to think about a few watts a day from our systems.
I use the remote to put my 222 into Standby. If I forget it goes there anyway. I never touch the buttons or dial for fear of leaving finger marks. I use the remote to control volume too, never the app. I find the remote more convenient.
But there’s far, far more domestic consumers than data centres.

Whereas ATC recommend switching off the power packs on their active speakers if they’re not going to be used for a few hours to prolong the life of components.
Roger
But industry? 75% of total consumption at least. So who should start first to think about environment. I, for instance, use almost 90% solar power. And anyway, if we think we should stop using energy, how should we develop? Just give me a break with this environment issue, when all day long we have wars, huge AI data centers and so on.
We can all do our bit, but should also consider how little that matters when compared to emissions growth from Chinese and India.
What I do in my lifetime is irrelevant.
If everyone took that line, nothing would change and we’d hurtle to extinction even faster. We can’t all abrogate responsibility and blame others for our own lack of action. Of course what we do is a tiny drop in the ocean, but those tiny drops add up.
I am still looking for that feature on the N50. So far unsuccessful.
My understanding is that LEDs don’t burn out in the same way that incandescent bulbs might. Apparently life expectancy can be as high as 100000 hours, more likely 50000, and that is the point at which they still work, but light emission reduces to 70%. The main enemies are heat and power cycling, so you might have an argument for leaving the 333 on. Then, one test regime I found refers to cycling 8 to 15 times a day. I think I would probably have more concern about the environment.
@catswhiskers Thank You
Yes, it will consume more when not in standby. And yes, the app shoukd fire up the 333 and bring it out of standby. I have a similar issue with waking up my nd5xs2. Although in my case it disappears from the app, and I have to press the button on the front.
If its an issue to get access the room, id just set it so that the 333 doesn’t go into standby. Your power amp will go to sleep after 30mins and shoukd be woken up by your pre.
@Thegreatroberto its very strange. The app does not wake the 333 in about one in six days. I have to then press the power button.
I use system automation and standby is set to never. I put into standby before bed. Sometimes the next day it does not come out of standby with the app. I would assume it should be fairly consistent.
There are three modes, on, network standby and deep sleep. The only way you would need to press the button is if it’s in deep sleep, unless there’s a network discovery issue preventing the app from seeing the streamer.
@ChrisSU
In my case standby is set to never. System automation and it is configured for network.
