I must revisit the ND555, I went to an event when released and was not wowed at the time and left being pretty content with NDS /555 - yes it was nice and full of Naimness but certainly wasn’t wowed for me to do the old ‘ I must have one of these”
I will of course wait to hear the 300 series and get a sense of the roadmap of future products before deciding on a direction for a new source - NDS still sounding fine albeit it’s an aging box!
I have had a play with other brands but after multiple demos I came to the conclusion nothing sounds like Naim - it just grabs you and demands you listen!
After I have heard what Powerline does to nait 50, I really need another one for the 555PS… But… installation will be a bi…
555PS in Fraim ground floor - terrier is no way of fine cable dressing without re-building Fraim
Plug is too big to manage him between the shelves. On the floor underneath fraim, there is already cable chaos (for the 2ndl liner, like nap 175, bluray…)
OK - maybe Powerigel Plus? Expensive…
But if the Powerline adds Bass weight as done with nait 50 with being not hard and even more smooth… It is a must.
Next project to come…
Installing Cisco
LPS for EE8 (Farad or F1)
Installing Powerline
Have an idea how to do it with only removing TT and upper fraim. No optimal cable dressing as it is lying on the floor. But - no worries.
Hi,
As I shared much above, the Farad is not the most organic and full sounding vs other lps I tried. It’s very dynamic and transparent.
I had the Israeli one, the Uptone Js1, the Uptone lps, the Mcru level 3, and the Hdplex 200 W. The Farad 3 lps too.
From reviews by members here ( @Michaelb and others), my experience with the PhoenixNet ( Sean jacobs linear ps inside), the Sean Jacobs will give you what you desire, a full bass and organic sound, with a lot of textures.
As for the powerblock upgrade, the Chord M6 is on my future radar. Many 500 series owners have it .
Sean Jacobs , CH Audio, doesn’t exist anymore ? I am very surprised. Are you sure? Because recently he did the ps upgrade for the Innuos Statement server and is behind the PhoenixNet too.
How does it cost new? I have read many here as Michael b, Midnightrambler or Blackmorec who praise the Sean Jacobs very high and find it goes well with a Naim system.
If I was you, I would go for it. And maybe after change the EE8 with the new upcoming Uptone Etheregen.
But on the other side there’s never end. Anyway I think all high quality ps will do clearly better than the stock SMPS. But not the entry level linear ps.
It is 1,2K Euro - 2 outputs (one switchable 5v/12v). @Michaelb, @MidnightRambler, @Blackmorec … are still using Sean Jacobs Power supplies in your system?
What is the sound uplift - full/warm or dynamic/clean
I ended up using several ARC6 DC4s The sound was very lifelike…fast, dynamic, highly present and rhythmical with live music’s ability to generate tons of emotion and listener involvement, like you’re in the venue with the performers
Hi Drago,
With the ARC6 DC4 it’s not an either/or proposition. It is faster, more detailed, more rhythmical, fuller, denser and more spatial.
Remeber what live music is like. You are already in the venue before the band starts to play, and the venue has a sound, an identity. The band takes the stage and from the first note the sound is loud, massively present, highly involving, hugely detailed from a timbral standpoint and very impactful and physical. That’s the exact same direction the ARC6 goes in. It changes the presentation to make it sound more like the live event. Huge impact and presence, massive emotions, but not in the least analytical….just overall a much more satifying and exciting presentation of the music.
@drago I use a custom DC3/4 hybrid with statement transformer and use it to run 2x Etheregen switches. I compared vs the Phoenixnet and decided to stay with what I had. People suggested that after a month the Phoenix was not run in but they have not heard the switch set up I am using. I rate Seans work very highly. You get a totally custom product if needed or can use off the shelf. I have tried a std DC3 as well which was also very good.
My preference was for the Etheregen switches over the Chord one. I tested side by side with the power supplies etc and eventually sold the Chord one.
I think I will go for DC3…
Bad thing is that it only can be placed on the floor (tales).
Found with bfly audio pure 1 a good absorber - I hope so.
No chance for any other space.
Forester can sit on the TV rack - but really like the DC3 for what it is - a hand made naim like piece
ND555 is in main system - ND5XS2/nDAC/XPS is with nait 50.
Had not compared anymore.
I did it when I got the ND555 - see above. ND555 clearly better as for its unique sound signature.
