ND555 Impressions

After a while I’m getting used to the sound of Melco n1;and it really starting sound good to me,I apologize for the quick conclusions before.

i installed nserve on mac. i see all my albums. I control click then convert flac. But i have a message: 0 albums waiting, …i don’t know if something is turning, if the conversation is operating.
Second question: when all will transcoded in flac, what to do next to transfer to the melco? thanks chrissu

If the conversion is successful, you will be able to see that each track is a .flac file instead of .wav if you look in N-Serve, or you can check in the Mac ‘finder’ if you look in the Unitiserve/music/MQ folder.
I’m not familiar with the Melco - you might be able to find out if there is a file import facility on it? What I do to transfer albums from the US to other storage devices is just find both locations in the Mac finder, and either copy or drag items from one to the other - just like any other files on a computer that you want to move. I generally do large transfers in batches, e.g. by artist, rather than doing one large transfer, but perhaps I am paranoid.

If you set-up the folder structure you want first on the Melco drive, then just use a file-manager to copy these files onto the Melco from where they are now - if you have all the .flac files it is very straight-forward.

I’d suggest copy a few - check they can be seen and selected to play via the Melco, then put on the rest.

how do you choose Raid 0 and files share? on the menu on the melco screen or you have to do it on a computer, installing before a melco app?

On the melco screen. Set smb share to yes and raid options also in there

The Melco should arrive delivered with Rail 0 default. That change was made years ago so there should be no Raid 1 already on there.

When you smb share to yes you can see the share on a windows pc or laptop and copy files.

good point, thanks.

if i click on extraction, where can i find all my files after? i ask because it’s my first time on a mac.

i am not sure of ethernet audioquest direction: out from the switch and in to the melco. Out from the melco and in the nds. ?

my vodka from router to switch is too short now. So i connected a melco white ethernet cable. The cable is flat. Do you know if this cable is of enough good quality ? thanks DB

I never got a while Melco cable with mine - I feel cheated! :rage:

I have no idea - I guess you will prefer your Vodka or another AQ cable eventually - but you need to let the Melco cable run-in and see how it goes; point it at the NDS I’d guess.

Have a listen for a bit - try another cable at some point just to hear what the differences are.

…if you mean the Melco to switch connection, then that is less improtant than Melco to NDS.

from router to switch.

That run is far less important IMO.
The ones closer to the NDS are the ones that make most effect.
Are you using your Diamond cable for NDS - Melco?

DB.

yes , diamond from switch to melco and diamond from melco to nds.
However i found that even from switch to the router, the cable quality is important. On my system.
What are the directions of arrows from nd555 to the melco. The arrow is pointing towards the nd555?

Yes - I ended-up preferring that way.

I got a couple of hours in yesterday on the 555 with belden, I only plugged the system in when I got home and bass was a bit too fruity and didn’t quite connect with the rest of the music. I gave it a couple of hours but it still wasn’t doing it so I looked at the final cable’s dressing to see it was resting on the power cable of the TV, which was on standby, rerouting it left it resting on a Burndy but not with any great pressure. The bass was now behaving itself better. Still not completely sure of it but with roving thunder storms my system doesn’t stay powered long enough to settle. I’ve not tried swapping cable direction as there seems no point until it can stabilise for more than two days.

We had a Tornado about 1/4 mile away on Tuesday. Power back on. No damage personally. A roof of a motel blew off. 70-80 mph winds. Radar confirmed Tornado. Two weeks ago my wife, daughters and grand daughters were in the Ridgecrest Earthquake. Enough Weather for a while. We are all safe, everyone here on Cape Cod.

Hope your power settles and you relax into a sublime+ listening session.

I’m in the Boston area as well. Glad you all were ok; that tornado was a very freak thing!!
