That was also my first result. There is a run-in and it IMO particularly bad in the 18-36 hour period, then improves after that. After that also you can determine a ‘direction’ but it is not worth doing that before you have run it in for a few days.
In my system with Melco I found it works very well - exceptionally well in fact - between Melco and switch, but for the direct connection between ND555 and Melco it is a more mixed-result that at present I can’t live with in my system.
The deep bass is still too dynamically vague in terms of timing - but the upper-bass on upwards is excellent and has many characteristics I really like - but I can’t half-listen to my music.
If only playing large classical works then the Belden does very well at retaining detail perspectives and presenting good micro-dynamics, depth and what I’ll call ‘flesh’ to vocals - probably it is a natural harmonic structure that my brain interprets at a real person.
But at low-frequencies it has very poor focus in my system; return the Vodka cable and the focus is back instantly. So presently I run the Vodka between ND555 and Melco and Belkin from Melco to switch.
It’s been a rather interrupted burn in so I’ve lost count of the hours. Its a bit more than 36 I think but still a work in progress. The improvement from rerouting the cable was enough for what I was playing at the time but I need to hear more music.
I use Vodka from my Synology NAS to Asus router, my player or Streamer is an Auralic G1 the folks at Auralic feel that wireless sounds better. I run mine that way on the 5ghz channel. Auralic feels that having no Ethernet connection eliminates a potential source of noise. From the G1 I use Audience Front Row USB to Chord Qutest, sounds great. I’m wondering if any of you fellows have tried any of the new-ish Audioquest Storm series Power Cords?
i have the melco since yesterday now. Perhaps you know, you can choose between 2 modes on the screen : direct mode and the other one ( pont in french language screen). The direct mode is a crap, better choose the other one. The direct mode was set up by default: the sound lacked involvement. The other mode restored the prat.
Thanks, do you know how can I add for my Melco another folder except the shared I already have, like as I did on asset media as much folders I needed ? The reason is to divide different music from one folder-to another, meaning I can see two folders on my pc
You can just edit the Melco drive directly to add new folder with a file manager - or can use Twonky Server (if you are usung that option) to set-up default folders.
For example - I rip a CD - it created a folder with the music in it - I then move it with file manager elsewhere, or rename the folder with file-editer with a suffix (release version, etc.) and then rip another CD and it will not overwrite the previous if it is nominally the ‘same’ CD but a different version (master or release mix).
I do this as I find they vary and for special albums I assemble them all and determine which is best and sometimes compile a ‘final’ one from that result.
ask @Darkebear or @BertBird. I can’t respond. They will see now my response.
How is the sound now, vs your hdd drive ? be honest please, you can not enjoy the melco so much perhaps.
Has any Melco user had problems with reliability. My less than year old N1Z has just stopped responding.
The mains indicator comes on but then nothing. I have tried the usual rebooting of my Router and the ND555 but nothing seems to work. Dealer currently of on his hols. Any helpful suggestion welcome.
The only thing I have noticed with mine is sometimes when I re-boot it can decide to recompile all the music directories - with lots of music on it that can take an hour or more sometimes before it gets to what I wanted to play. It can be annoying - I think I turned off the option for it to do that - but it works fine after that, just a delay while it recompiled.
This may not help but so far it is the only thing I experienced twice in a year of owning mine, which was about a year old when I got it ex-dem from my Dealer.
The sound from the Melco directly is better. So I tried to put everything which is high res or what I value as much as possible on the Melco itself. However given the limits in capacity, I now have to consider properly organizing it which will be a huge task, my advice to everybody is to split your backups in high res quality music and others, so for you to ensure the most relevant music get’s to the Melco.
If you can’t get it on any interface then you narrow-down the possible problem.
Can you access the Data via your computer accessing the Melco as a network drive?
I also disabled the restart on Network change which was originally defaulted, as I prefer to do that manually when I want to rather than when it wants to:
If no access to anything from any possible interface - then a big problem, but if just one then you narrow the problem and may be able to solve it.
Sometimes going onto the front panel (does that work?) and then selecting data-sharing off then on can restart everything if it got a glitch - I’ve done that a couple of times when I did a ‘messy reboot’ (pulling-out mains lead by mistake!
I was too hasty in the beginning, now few days later it sound better vs my hdd drive,i still use N1 that the dealer borrow me,till I will get N10 around middle of next month, hopefully to be satisfied, latter I will considered on a ethernet cable not the most expensive range around AQ vodka price or chord on same price range
For a cheap AQ cable I liked the Cinnamon with Melco.
The Vodka is better - I suspect it may work well with the voicing of the N10, as I found the N10 a little lighter in bass than N1 and Vodka is a little (or a lot) heavier in bass.
Matching cable signatures is becoming a bit more important for long-term contentment with the ND555 and other components I’m finding.
Unfortunately the Melco is dead. No lights on except the mains indicatior. It does not respond to to the front buttons - they do not light at up all no options available.
I think I might try Melco directly tomorrow.
have you disabled the Mode Direct on the melco screen ? the other lan mode is more involving and dynamic.
( but i still use the direct connection of nds to the melco switch)
chord on the same price range is the price of top audioquest. around 700GBP for 0,75m. The chord entry level is c stream, and after you have the signature array ( around 800GBP).
