The first one is the best.

And of course don’t forget the 552 and its PS. Naim full load = ND555 + PSU555DR + PSU555DR + NAC552 + PSU555DR ~ 1 Te$la.

i prefer the former :crazy_face::face_with_thermometer:

Wait until a new Naim development get’s released a super dac which sounds only at it’s top with a ND555. That gives the option of two box front end with four times a ps…, then a 2nd PS on a ND555 is just considered a starter set…

with an additional super clock and its ps, it will give 6 boxes streamer !

No danger to me- I could just about squeeze a second 555 by moving the lp12 to a wall shelf but there is no way I could accommodate anything extra - already at 2x6 levels!

Well I have had a couple of hours listening to my nd555 now. Had a gap of three days since hearing nds, and I am not restricting myself to stuff I had recently played on the nds, but there are very clear differences. I used the word “natural” at the launch / demo events when I first heard the nd555 and that is still I think the best word - voice and instruments are more “in the room” but the overall sound remains cohesive. I think the difference is more noticeable at home in my own system (compared to dealer systems on previous events - one I think 552, 300 and B&W 803s (and a friend has this but now has 802s and his 500 arrives a week tomorrow but I haven’t heard the 802s with or without 500 in his home), another with some ATC speakers, passive 50s if I remember correctly). The SL2s seem well up to allowing the benefits of the nd555 to flow

I think natural is a good way to describe it indeed. I also find it a more relaxing and less restrained. And when you are fully warmed up you will be exposed to more maturity in the overall sound…

My first listening yesterday. My first thoughts are that (1) some recordings sound like different recordings now - in a very positive way - and (2) I still keep coming back to the word “natural” as the best description of the sounds coming from the ND555. Not sure if I am making this up but I seem to remember seeing someone talk about it “not sounding like a recording” - which I suppose is a variant on “the musicians are in the room” - and that seems accurate. Nowhere near warmed up yet - especially as we had some electrical problems in the house that resulted in the system (and everything else downstairs apart from the fridge) being turned off for 14 hours or so Wednesday night to Thursday lunchtime

Sorry for repeating myself a bit there!

This is very apposite for the ND555 - Naim for top-end items when they feel they have maxed-out all the usual Naim musical trait things have made naturalness a sonic character IMO.

This properly began with the Statement series - which on first listening and perhaps expecting a kind or ‘super-552’ you are shocked with an underwhelming ‘just there’ presentation that seamlessly top-to-bottom of frequency response and with effortless presentation of timing information from large-scale to low-level simultaneously present is just ‘there’!

Naim have built a top-end streamer that can both crown the Reference Series and properly source the Statement Series with the ND555 - and given a two-stage upgrade possibility for the second supply if/when desired.

Lots more to come - won’t be peaking best until it has a few more months on it - and around that time you will find getting the right cables to tune the signature to your system to reatain that easy neutral sound worthwhile. Enjoy! :slightly_smiling_face::bear:

Thanks, DB. I have read (some of) the cable comments above :scream: and will return in due course. The second 555 will have to wait - am cleaned out now!

Yep - know that one!

Need some help. I have searched on the Forum but no luck.

I can not find out how I can control the volume on 552 through the ND555 remote. Looking at the instructions it say “settings” thereafter “volume mode”. But I do not find “volume mode”. My ND is connected to the CD input on the 552.

The remote is working with the ND. I can stop and skip tracks using the remote.

What have I missed?

You need to run system automation I think. That’s what I do from a NDX2 to a SN2, you enable it through the app and connect a 3.5mm between the streamer and pre-amp.
