ND555 running in & cables

Do you let it streaming 24/24, volume 0 during night?

Turns out this head unit is very close to brand new, it was in a showroon but really on a shelf in a storage room in the back, not a permanent installation and always cold (unplugged). Dealer had maybe 25-50 hours of playback on it - setting it up only when clients requested it. The PS had 0 hours. So I estimate that currently this kit has about 300 hours on it. It sounds smoother today I have to say.

I don’t change the ND555 volume, I have it at fixed output 100%. I let it stream (Roon) 24/7 and just mute the preamp.

I’ve also noticed that brightness bothers me the most with the Super Lumina DIN. When changing to the Hi-Line things are smoother, but also sound stage suffers.

My notes on SL vs Ansuz C2.

The upper bass sticks out. More forward/tough top end. Unbalanced more nervous.

I once toyed with a SL Din until my dealer said ā€˜Nah, too sterile’. FWIW used a Chord Sarum Super Aray Din-Din with 555:552 to great effect. So much so I now use another one on my 333:332 300x2.

I also enjoyed super Sarum when I had it :+1: Ansuz A2 and C2 are also extremely good with Naim IMO.

Strange - I thought that SL is less bright, but not compared to hi line - compared to lavender

It’s very strange you find Lavender bright. Broken? It’s coherent and naimy but I’ve never thought about it being bright. On the other hand there are many posts here talking about SL being bright.

No - it’s not broken. It sounded fine - but compared with SL it had less texture and a sharper top end. SL DIN? I read about speaker cables not interconnect. I like both din5 and din-xlr. They bettered the standard ones, which were very good.
Ansuz … yes I should try.
But for now (it’s itching…) I can not do any update as I wait for … you know what

Try a Chord Sarum t , more analog like.

Just out of curiosity have you played with the input settings at all? These can really reduce the glare issue, especially switching off Tidal/Spotify/Qobuz, whichever you are not using.

I thought those only mattered for the latest firmware. This unit is on 3.8.4. Do input settings make a difference for older fw as well?

I don’t think they’re as marked with 3:8 as they are with 3:10 but the ND is very sensitive to everything. Even silly things like the position on the glass/Fraim can create a little glare.

It is increasing looking like a case of break-in. The ND555 harshness has softened. I left it alone for another 5 days or so and it now sounds more organic. At my listening session today I caught several glimpses of magic. But it’s not where I want it to be yet.

I’d also suggest having a play around with the ground switch as well. Don’t pay too much attention to what ā€˜theoretical’ correct position should be. My ND should be set to ground but I find the floating position, for some reason, sounds much much better as it removes a whole heap of that edgy glare.

Just asking @Geko can we switch the floating position while the unit is being powered on? Or do we need to turn off first. Tks!

No, you can switch it over at any time. However, I find I takes a few minutes to take full effect.

Tks for the advice will go try it and see !

Shouldn’t it be floating since you have two sources to your pre? I should only be one path to ground and you have two with the ND555 set to chassis.
