Shouldn’t it be floating since you have two sources to your pre? I should only be one path to ground and you have two with the ND555 set to chassis.
I asked both Naim and my dealer what I should set the ground to with an LP12/Geddon, both said it should be grounded unless I was using the Ndac or CDP555. The general consensus is listen to both and see which one you prefer. With 3:8 I used it grounded as it sounded better, everything had a touch more edge and liveness. However, with 3:10 many have found that the floating position now removes that edge and I completely agree this now sounds much better. Well, maybe not better but certainly more listenable.
I actually managed a four hour session the other night. That the longest one I’ve had since 3:10 was introduced! The stock EE8 SMPS was sounding particularly good. I tried swapping to my LPS but it sounded a bit more laid-back and boring, so I’m definitely with you on the SMPS speed thing.
New ND555 network cable observation. SR Alpha + Muon pro >> Sigma. The Alpha + Muon pro combo is just at another level. Got my soundstage to the point where sounds originate behind my ears. And increased engagement compared to Sigma which I thought impossible. Highly highly recommended combination with the ND555.
Is that combo in place of the Sigma or with the Sigma also in line? I have to say that Sigma gave me the widest and deepest stereo image I’ve ever heard. I’ve got a pretty large room (12m x 6m) and it extends well beyond the boundaries, often with sounds that appear to come from behind me. This was especially apparent with 3:8 but much less so with 3:10. With 3:8 you also picked up on venue acoustics, which added another dimension to the music.
This is in place of the Sigma, for around the same cost. No Sigma in line. The improvement is significant.
It took me a full two months to figure this out and I almost sold the ND555 twice in the process. I thought I was losing my mind. But I finally found the culprit. Replaced the Powerline with a regular cable and the harshness is completely gone! This was accidental and the last place I expected I needed to look - this was after all the cable that was bundled with the PS and looked brand new. I subsequently tried this Poweline on other components (preamp, amps) and everything sounds off and harsh with it. This cable is definitely faulty.
All I can say is the ND555 (which is on 3.8) now sounds organic, smooth, velvety yet somehow with impressive texture, nuance and detail. The pairing with 300 series components (332/300 and NAP350s) is sublime and highly recommended.
