ND555 unleashed!

I just got my hands on a Melco S10 to try at home. I had not realised how much more the ND555 had to give - it has stepped up in performance quite dramatically and is now truly nipping at the heels of vinyl playback. Very impressive - both the melco and the ND555!

I was equally impressed with adding Innuos Statement + PhoenixNet. A remarkable difference. Taken a step further by the Shunyata Omega…

At that price, I would hope so.

Maybe I should try the pheonix too !

Looks like your vinyl needs a boost to stay ahead.

Not cheap, but I wish I’d discovered it earlier!! I feel somewhat like I have wasted years listening to this amazing system at a fraction of its true potential. Better late then never I guess…

Strange you should say that… in fact, it is a “lowly” Rega P9, with a very simple photo stage. Shockingly good for the money. As yet not been tempted for a P10 or other, although my wife did ask why we do not have a TT upstairs the other day… I am not one to waste an opportunity :joy:

You don’t get an opportunity like that every day.

I wonder what the new Melco S1 switch would do.
Only 13 k euros.

And the Melco S1 has the option of an external clock. The Mutec REF10 SE120 would be the obvious starting point. At about 5.000 Euro.

It would probably land you in the divorce courts! :grinning:

3 days in, the Melco has brought texture, detail, additional substance to instruments, but more importantly somehow more energy to music. The problem is that whilst the bass is really great, I have a little too much of it now… I need to find a way to tame it down a little, as the rest is just too good to give up. No way back :grimacing:Problems problems…

Room treatment and / or speaker positioning is probably the answer ?

What are your Ethernet cables ?

I already have corner bass traps, but looks like I will be back to playing with speaker positioning

And you have the latest ND555 software or? Some claim it brought more bass to it.

Currently installed are nordost Valhallas. Not sure how they compare to the options out there. Rest of system is Music, which can also be a bit bass rich (but very involving… the trade off) Maybe with the Melco in place the choice to go with Music might’ve been a different one though.

So you have top cables. I asked because, as you know, some can give a leaner sound and less bass. The Vodka for example has an exaggerated bass, which may suit if the system is lacking it.
I never heard Nordost cables Ethernet, but I feel the Chord must be richer and fuller.

My impression of nordost generally is that they are fairly bass neutral, but I need to explore this a bit more. I am guessing that with a bit of speaker tweaking I may get there, and otherwise I may get used to it ultimately, even with the slightly heavy bass, the detail in the bass was quite a surprise. As a bass player myself I often struggle to hear exactly what is being played down there, but the Melco has opened that up.

I have indeed - unknowingly it kind of coincided with the arrival of the switch. I might’ve been facing this bass issue anyway I guess from what I’ve been reading - I really do not enjoy repositioning speakers, especially 808s as they seem to need 20mins or so to “settle” every time they are moved. Long process…:face_with_spiral_eyes::zzz::zzz::zzz:
