ND555 unleashed!

It would probably land you in the divorce courts! :grinning:

3 days in, the Melco has brought texture, detail, additional substance to instruments, but more importantly somehow more energy to music. The problem is that whilst the bass is really great, I have a little too much of it now… I need to find a way to tame it down a little, as the rest is just too good to give up. No way back :grimacing:Problems problems…

Room treatment and / or speaker positioning is probably the answer ?

What are your Ethernet cables ?

I already have corner bass traps, but looks like I will be back to playing with speaker positioning

And you have the latest ND555 software or? Some claim it brought more bass to it.

Currently installed are nordost Valhallas. Not sure how they compare to the options out there. Rest of system is Music, which can also be a bit bass rich (but very involving… the trade off) Maybe with the Melco in place the choice to go with Music might’ve been a different one though.

So you have top cables. I asked because, as you know, some can give a leaner sound and less bass. The Vodka for example has an exaggerated bass, which may suit if the system is lacking it.
I never heard Nordost cables Ethernet, but I feel the Chord must be richer and fuller.

My impression of nordost generally is that they are fairly bass neutral, but I need to explore this a bit more. I am guessing that with a bit of speaker tweaking I may get there, and otherwise I may get used to it ultimately, even with the slightly heavy bass, the detail in the bass was quite a surprise. As a bass player myself I often struggle to hear exactly what is being played down there, but the Melco has opened that up.

I have indeed - unknowingly it kind of coincided with the arrival of the switch. I might’ve been facing this bass issue anyway I guess from what I’ve been reading - I really do not enjoy repositioning speakers, especially 808s as they seem to need 20mins or so to “settle” every time they are moved. Long process…:face_with_spiral_eyes::zzz::zzz::zzz:

Irrespective, the system is sounding better than ever… lovely air around notes, acoustic guitar has that top edge to notes that seems to just soar upwards and fade out gradually… same in drums. I was listening to a billy cobham track earlier, one I know well, and I’m hearing a snare drum resonance that I never noticed before. Having same experience across the board - just cleaner and clearer, hearing deeper into stuff I know well. All whilst seemingly allowing the naim involvement to come through even more strongly. Very enjoyable
I guess it shows that my home network was actually a noisy pile of cr@p ! :joy:

Billy Cobham , you have another fan here, me. Specially the first album, or the series Billy Cobham and drums, 1 to 4.

The track I was referring to here is finding snoopy on the Time Lapses Photo album, if you know it. Saw him on that tour in a small club in London and he and the group were smoking! Saw him again a few years later in Geneva, but a much larger venue and lost some of the audience / artist buzz. Still good though. Took my then 13yr old son to meet him after, such a nice guy

I have the first album, original on lp , in 2 versions ( US and France, 1973).
The digital are :

I will investigate Time lapse. Thanks for pointing it .

That gives me an idea for my son!
I have been collecting original pressings of various things that I think (hope) he will appreciate in the future - Billy should be on that list!
In fact I just picked up some mint Maurizio Pollini Chopin German pressed vinyls (he is a fan) for his birthday this week.
I still have my father’s first pressing of Rubber Soul (mono) which sounds incredible. « Digital » versions just cannot compete with the sound that comes from this 60 yr old piece of plastic :grimacing::joy:

I found time lapse photos. The tracks are issued from the first album and the second ( Spectrum and Crossings). My two favourites, I have them both on lps.
:+1:

Yes, new takes on old stuff. I always like to go back to the originals, but I do like mixing it up

When you feel you can, try the Melco N1. It further reveals the depth of the ND555. You might even find that it puts vinyl in the rear view mirror.
And there is a further reasonably priced step via Audiophile Digital Audio Technology (ADOT).
Our great hobby keeps giving (and taking, of course!).

Trying to figure out what the ADOT is! Does is work in addition to the S10, or instead of the S10?

There is a post all about this in the Streaming Audio section.

Enjoy your read.
