Funny how when your mind is elsewhere simple stuff passes by!!

OK, so just realised the big flaw in my initial comparison of the XS and XS2… using multi-room mode will have kept the processor and network ports a lot busier. When both run pulling the same file from the NAS, the difference between the two becomes much bigger with the XS2 delivering quite a bit more detail, and what seems like less bass is probably better controlled bass.
So now the task is to try and recover some bass oomph, even if that was perhaps less accurate…
Still very happy with the XS2, although a pause button would be handy… answering the phone at the same time you’re trying to pause the streamer is not optimal!
