NDS connection problem

My system has been down for a few months while I was getting my speakers repaired. I couldn’t be more excited to listen to it again now that I’ve got my speakers back.

But the Naim app no longer recognises me or my system. On the login options, I have no choice. I own an NDS.

I cannot play music on the app anymore.

Try rebooting router, switch and NDS and try again. Also make sure the Naim app still have the rights to connect to your local network (look in the phone settings on the Naim app).

Also press up here. Hidden menu and see if you find NDS there.

Can the NDS connect to iRadio by pressing the buttons on the front? If it can, it has internet access. Then you need to make sure your phone is on the same network as the NDS. If it is, the NDS should appear, which you can trigger by pulling the Home Screen down. There is also the + icon to try. It’s worth leaving the router on but just rebooting the NDS if it doesn’t appear. The app should work perfectly with your NDS.

There are still lots of these old streamers out there working. If you have an undiagnosed discovery issue it could be a problem with the streamer, or your phone, your router, or some other network component. I do understand that this can be frustrating, but with a bit of digging it can likely be resolved.

I’ve an old streamer (SU and a UQ2 that’s not in use at the minute.). Make sure the NDS is actually connected to Ethernet ideally. Uninstall and reinstall the Naim app - sometimes updates don’t cause the permission grant dialog box to come up.

The nds should work.
Don’t be angry… afaik you have a 3.8 nd555… so no need to feel angry.

Apologies all, I did get a bit worked up last night!

It’s really frustrating that the app doesn’t list legacy streamers anymore.

I have a new shelf level arriving any day so the ND555 will be going in then.

have you try to tape its IP address to detect it ?

start the app
click on “+”
setup new device
go right to the bottom, there is “Add manually by IP Address”
tape the IP Address of your lovely NDS
then …

Yes, to connect, type in the NDS IP address, if you are set for DHCP, your tablet/phone will remember it if it’s been on before.
If not DHCP, it’s just a few more clicks.
A picture of your device shows, tap that and it connects.

It was quite some time ago, but I think I remember having to add the NDS manually to assist “discovery”.
Also, after restarting it sometimes takes a little while to show up in the app. Other devices show up much more quickly.

I’m using the latest Naim android app to control my wifi connected NDS with no issues, for music on my NAS, Tidal and Internet radio. Have you checked your NDS firmware? Think you now need version 4.9 for Internet radio.

I came back to the system today and the NDS is there on the app. Nothing reset or rebooted or changed in the meantime. Sounding absolutely wonderful with the 606 back to their best. I’m going to be more careful with the volume control in future.

Extra shelves are ready for shipping so the ND555 and second PS will be hooked up before too long

I had the same problem, once and sometimes twice a week. I recommend you to buy a cheap transport like the Primare NPS. 3 guys are enjoying it with their Nds here. Still Naim sound.
I went for Lumin U2 mini with Ifi Power Eliy. Completely stable now and upgraded sound.

I’m assuming I won’t have this problem when I switch to the ND555, and that won’t be long now. I will be sad to see the NDS go though.

Why don’t you hook up the nd555 (with wonderful 3.8) with 1ps only?
What took the 606s so long to repair by the way?

I was completely misled …
Thought the lumin was a small mini box as some others. Oops - it’s a 2,5k streamer. Yes - this will improve the sound. It’s in similar range as innous pulsar.

One needed a new tweeter so it was just the time to get that to the dealer.

I just haven’t had time. I have a manufacturing business and I’m always working/travelling/tired.

I want to take a few days to install everything slowly and carefully and just enjoy the experience. I think an opportunity will be coming soon.
