NDS - JPLAY - Qobuz

I’m just playing around with JPLAY as part of their 14 day trial to see what it’s like and how it performs generally.

One thing I can not get to work is for JPLAY to play Qobuz on my NDS. It plays a few seconds then stops or throws a generic error.

The only way to get it to play reliably seems to be set up my iPhone as proxy for Qobuz which is not what I want to do.

Has anybody manage to get this working on the NDS without the proxy?

Thx

Hi Jack,

Not quite sure what your endgame is? Are you using a PC or Apple device

There are a number of issues using a PC to play Qobuz directly to an NDS mainly around how windows sound architecture works

I don’t use jplay but do have workarounds for playing qobuz to NDS from PC

Reading jplay documentation suggests you either need a control device other than the PC (phone or tablet usually) and then run a server on the PC itself. (This is how bubblepnp works also). If this is what you are doing and still having a problem it is usually an issue with buffers and speeds between devices - try a lower bitrate first.

Or the other way is to use an audio interface as jplay says it has ASIO output. If you do this though it is then down to jplay to be able to ‘record’ the qobuz stream (unless you can login to qobuz directly and play it) and output it to the interface (this is similar to how qobuz and foobar work except foobar has a upnp renderer add on).

Not quite sure what you are trying to achieve as jplay tries to minimise services running on your PC in order to sound good (similar to how cmp/cplay used to do). This is typically done for music only PC builds and will likely screw up other apps while it is working

I tried and had the same issues as you. Mconnect worked better, but with freezes too every 15 mn.

@mikebu @frenchrooster

Thanks guys. I primarily use Roon with the LMS2UPnP bridge to play across my network to the NDS without issue. I like to check out other solutions just to see what they offer and if worth considering somewhere down the road.

I’ve been running JPLAY on my iPhone as a control point and can play my local files via my Asset UPnP server without issue but trying to get JPLAY to stream Qobuz directly to the NDS without proxying through my phone seems to be a problem. Seems like @frenchrooster also encountered the same.

@mikebu Your mention of cmp/cplay took me back…..I think I had that set up on a WIndows XP system a long time back! Getting the DPC latency down always seem to be a key factor then.

Streaming Qobuz to other UPnP renderers from JPLAY doesn’t seem to be an issue so obviously something between the NDS and JPLAY not right. I’ll probably let the trial expire and put JPLAY on the back burner. I quite like the interface in JPLAY so probably will keep an eye on it for the future. Thanks again
