Just got my new NDX 2 and Supernait 3. All good so far and I am very pleased with the kit.
Simple question … the NDX 2 remote has volume buttons but they do not operate the volume on the SN3. I have connected a wire with 3.5mm jacks between the Remote In on the SN3 and IR Out on the NDX 2 but no joy.
Being able to use the NDX 2 for volume isn’t really a big deal but I just interested to know if it is possible with my set-up.
Both items are brand new and had I not asked I would have received a white logo SN3 and a green logo NDX 2. I wasn’t prepared to have the units with different logos. The NDX 2 - which I think is being discontinued - isn’t available in white so the SN3 had to be green so as to match the NDX 2. The dealer had white SN3s in stock but went directly to Naim to get a new, green SN3. They sent a white one! The dealer tried again and got me a green one. It was definitely a brand new, sealed box. I am very happy now!
The dealer should not have been prepared to sell non-matching colour units. So well done for asking, and shame on the dealer for even trying to offload a non-matched pair. Green looks better, BTW!
To be fair he could not have been more helpful and more persistent when dealing with Naim to get me a matching pair. But I concede that I did have to ask at the outset if the units would match …
Imagine the disappointment on paying thousands of pounds and finding that your boxes don’t match. Frankly I find Naim’s decision to change the colour - without making it switchable - on some models but not others simply unfathomable.
Naim has been gradually changing the logos back to the original silvery white, which is the reason behind it. However, green ones have been still made available for those who want to keep the logos matched. I think that swapping out the logos is pretty straightforward and something a dealer could do for the customer without too much difficulty. Only the NAP500 presents a challenge that can only be undertaken at the factory as it requires a complete strip down to change the logo which is embedded deep within the casework.
Really? I’ve known dealers change them. Indeed, I’ve actually taken them to dealers back in the day for them to change when they were wanting to match up the brightness on different kit (the logo started out very bright on the NAP500 and 5 series then was changed with the Classic range introduction). It’s a very simple process on most items, especially a power amp (NAP500 excepted) or a power supply, although I guess a Superline and a pre-amp are a bit more involved so if a dealer was not feeling confident or didn’t have the facility to do so then I guess a return to base would be required.
Definately. And the dealer concerned is likely your nearest dealer too.
I believe it may be just easier ( for them) to ship to Salisbury. Id have preferred they did it whilst i had a coffee rather have the item go via a courier.
SN3 too. You did well to get that pair while they’re still available. It’s an excellent combination which I hope will give you a great deal of pleasure.
And … spending more of your money … adding a power supply to the NDX is a very nice upgrade.
I prefer the look of the NDX 2 / SN 3 series over the new ones too. I hope I haven’t made a mistake buying discontinued/discontinuing kit but I am indeed very happy with it at the moment and it was a good deal.
I believe the reason the SN3 was discontinued was primarily parts supply issues and Naim wanted to maintain a stock of parts for servicing/repairs. So you should be well protected. Have fun.
Its a great combo, i have listened to ‘upgrades’ and havent upgraded ftsr 3 years. Im very surprised the sn3 does not cost more than it does. The fact that it can relay an ndx2’s brilliance is all you need to know. Enjoy!
I daren’t risk that !!
I am thinking of splashing out on a Framelite though. I think that a black one would look lovely. I know it’s insanely expensive - let alone what a Fraim costs - but in for a penny …
