Hi everyone, to improve my network setup and reduce noise, I’d like to ask if it’s possible to set the NDX2 to Wi-Fi for remote control via the Naim app and for streaming from Qobuz, while still using the Ethernet connection to my Innuos server. My intention is, if possible, to keep the router electrically separate from the Innuos server. I assume that if I switch the NDX2 to Wi-Fi, the Ethernet connection to the Innuos will be disabled. Any feedback on this?
Others will clarify but my understanding is its the other way round. Wifi is the default and is disabled if an ethernet cable is plugged in.
I’m afraid I’m unable to offer a solution to what you want but other far more knowledgeable members may be able to assist.
You can’t use WiFi and Ethernet simultaneously, you need to set the streamer up to use one or the other. If the Innuos is connected directly to the streamer instead of via a normal network connection you can only use Ethernet on the streamer.
Thank you, Chris, for your confirmation. The issue may be that if I use the Innuos server connected via Ethernet but not connected to the router, I cannot use the Naim App as a remote control. I can also decide not to use streaming services if I don’t need them and to connect the cable from the router ONLY when I need it. But if I don’t connect the cable from the router, the Naim App won’t work either.
If you really want to (electrically) separate from the router, you can look at having a switch connected to server/streamer and connect the router from there.
You can then look at different quality of switches, and/or optical connection to the router, or use an access point on the audio equipment and then connect that via WiFi to the router.
Endless opportunities, no idea why will “sound best” in your setup.
(I’m posting with theoretical and IT knowledge, for my Novas I don’t worry about electrical noise much.)
Is the Innuos server connected to the internet? If so, you’re fine to control the NDX2 with the iPhone.
My ND555 is connected directly to my Melco server by ethernet cable. The Melco is then connected to the internet via a switch.
Here below my current Network Architecture. Innuos Stream 1 + LPS1 has two ethernet ports, I use them for IN/OUT and reach the NDX2. What may I improve?
Looks good to me. This is essentially how mine is set up too. Simply control it all from your phone or pad connected by WiFi.
