Ndx2 power supply upgrade

If you look in the right places, half decent prices are available. For me the xpsdr to 555 was a big change.

Thank you all. I have decided to go with 555ps dr based on your feedback. I find a nice dealer and already made an offer for a brand new product. Fingers crossed. I hope it will be a good investment.

The 555 is delivered with power-line reference cable. It looks like this is a high quality item. I also have ifi supanova cable. Any experience with supanova & 555? I will try and listen bottle of them but I am curious if anybody has already tried and compared these to cables with 555

It’s a winner and makes such a huge difference.

No experience with Supanova at all but out of morbid curiosity I once tried a couple of other power leads on my Naim boxes and very quickly came back to the supplied Naim cables and powerlines.

I have also tried a few other power cables on my Naim kit (252/SCDR/300DR + NDX2/XPSDR) and found Powerline to be better.

However, I recently replaced my Superline/SCDR with a Boulder 1108 phono-stage, and tried the Powerline on the Boulder. It was not as good as the AV Options TibiaPlus12 (for about 1/4 the cost). Better yet is the Siltech Explorer 270P power cable, and that’s their entry level at about 60% the cost of the Powerline. I will probably end up with the Siltech Classic Legend 380P power cable for the Boulder (about same cost as Powerline).

I haven’t experimented with a ton of power cables, but the Shunyata Venom HC on my SN3 and Shunyata Venom NR V12 on my HiCap DR have been a really winning combo for me.

Another question. If you have power line cable and supanova, which component deserves a better cable? 555 for NDX2 or Supernait?

This may depend on a few factors, but I have found that the cable on the Supernait (and HiCap if present) made more of an improvement to sound than the power supply for the NDX 2 (at least, the XPS-DR I am using).

I have put my “best” PC on the XPS-DR for the NDX 2 (Shunyata Venom NR V12), and now have a spare Audience Forte F3 on the HCDR and it was mostly a lateral move. Upgrading the PC on the HCDR though has a huge impact in my system.

This is worth experimenting, however. Everybody’s power is different. I’m using a 10kVA Topaz -31 series isolation transformer. I may make a different decision going straight into the wall.

When I upgraded my PC to a Naim Powerline I noticed this as well. Sounded much better on the HiCapDr than the Supernait which was surprising. Eventually I added Powerlines to all my boxes.

IMHO a better upgrade would be to upgrade the SN3 w/ a HiCap DR. I have an NDX2/CD555 and had the XPSDR before. When I borrowed the XPSDR it took me 5 mins to buy it. When I had the chance to demo a CD555 I traded the XPSDR. Obviously the PS is the heart of any Naim gear, just a matter of value. I think the weak link in your sys is the SN3. I have one (it definitely needs a HiCapDR) and don’t think you will see the value of a CD555 with it. I think you would w/ a 282/250DR.

While waiting for my 555 to deliver, I switched from WiFi to Ethernet with a Supra J10 cable. Wow! This was unexpected to me! The stage almost double down and the dynamics improved really nicely. Maybe I am experiencing some cable lover pit fall but really curious about your experience as well. Please let me know

I went from NDX2/XPSDR. To NDX2/CD555PS. Even SWMBO could tell the difference and she claims to be unable to tell the difference between SD and 4K TV……

I just received 555. The immediate response, worth every penny. Really a significant improvement on the stage, dynamics and really rythmic. I highly suggest this upgrade to everyone.

I can only concure. Here the 555 PS DR is connected to the NDX2 since five days. The many improvements are not subtle!
