Did you compare both systems in the same room?
No. I compared my system at home with the new one at the dealer. When I got home from the dealer, I listened to my system again with the same music. The difference was less than I had perceived in the store, and any difference might be due to the room.
I still think the new 250 has more grip on the speakers than my SN2 with Hicap DR. My dealer is very honest, and he finds that the new 250 is better than the 300DR. YMMV.
No, Filtronique in MontrƩal.
If the 300 dr was not discontinued, not sure he would say that the 250 is better. At least for all the dealers in Paris area I know.
Or if he had one in stock.
Itās all a conspiracy. Those evil dealers getting together to pull the wool over the eyes of naive Naim buyers. Of course it cannot be right that the new 250 is better than the 300. They are making it up.
Glad to see youāre finally getting it.
To much highs and unreal bass. Very tiring not high end. More like average stereo set. To much emphasis and coloring of the sound. Personally i like more neutral amps and streamers. For me the endpoint after 32 years Naim. Now other brands to explore.
The new 250 is good, but does not better a 300 with a moderately difficult speakerā¦ā¦the 300 comes into itās own imo.
Personally I donāt know if itās better or not, only a direct comparison can tell. But for now I have not encountered a new Naim product from Naim that is 25% cheaper vs the last generation and still better vs the later.
And, in my experience of several dealers since 23 years in France, I will never trust them blindly.
But other may have a very trusty dealer and trust him at 100%. Itās not my case .
Wonder how many dealers and employees that crowd this forum undercover making posts to sell boxes.
They donāt need to. The forum promotes whatever product a member owns without the need for such intervention from dealers.
I have known the guys at my dealerās store for 20 years now. They have never steered me wrong. Yes, I do trust them.
Like anything else in life
There are great dealers, good dealers, poor dealers and frankly those looking to make a sale by any means available.
Happy to say many many more of the first two than the second two. The caveat being that dealers can of course migrate from one level to another up or down depending upon many factors such as staff, current sales and the financial situation of the business.
Unfortunately I havenāt got a great dealer locally so
I prefer the evidence of my own ears over anything else.
It would be interesting to know how you tried the new series, if with a demo at home in your environment and with your speakers or other equipment.
I believe that @Kacper tried the new series on his current high-level setup. If he says that the new series is not better but different, this makes me think that he perhaps does not consider it that worse? And if it is not worse than his current setup, it would already be a huge compliment, almost impossible to me, considering what he is comparing it to.
Aside from your catchy phrases @Cprdam , I believe that everyone should always try new things and not fixate on a single brand. Things evolve, and it is also fun to see what is on the horizon. I am sure that in 32 years you have had the opportunity to try other brands as well.
While some may admire the evolution of certain products, others may not like it. For example, I have always been fascinated by McIntosh and someday I would like to try themā¦ itās also nice (and part of the joy) to have something to try and not have tried everythingā¦
I donāt like to use a word āworseā in this kind of comparisons, and I would not swap my NAP300 for a new 250. ā¦
Good on you Kacper
If the NC 250 beats the NAP300 DR then we have all been sold a sop that those big expensive separate power supplies make any difference whatsoever. Iāve no doubt itās very good, but Iāll eat my hat of it has the balls, drive and solidity of the 300. I certainly wouldnāt be parting with a dual mono power amp with a 300 PS for a single box power amp of any brand.
Likewise if I had the 300DR amp Mike , doesnāt make sense
I could go on but I got wrapped over the knuckles previously so Iāll refrain from further comment
