Neil Young has cancelled his entire European tour this coming summer.
A great pity as his opening UK gig was to be at the Eden Project here in Cornwall. I was hoping to attend as we are not exactly overrun with world famous artists in this part of the country & I was looking forward to a round trip of only 30 miles instead of 500 or so, plus overnight accomodation, which has been the norm in the past to see artists of a similar stature.
I believe that Neil is 80, so I assume that age is the reason the tour is cancelled. I doubt we will see him perform here again.
I bought tickets for Cardiff - booked within an hour of them going on sale and the hotel had already tripled in price compared to normal - wonāt get that back. Also wonāt get the Ticketmaster charges back so very disgusted with him. Basically he canāt be arsed.
I go back a long way with him, I have the Buffalo Springfield albums in mono and his first solo album in the original design - I thought he was a good guy.
I have no idea why tour has been cancelled but doubt it was because he ācouldnāt be arsedā.
Because of the money involved he would likely have to pay the costs of a cancelled tour of he just didnāt fancy it. To avoid this I suspect that he would have had to have a really good reason.
Given his age, & the fact that he does not look the healthiest of individuals, my guess would be that the cancellation is health related.
Surely the worst loss you you would suffer would be your hotel deposit. They presumably offered cancellation insurance. Didnāt you purchase it?
Obviously, the biggest loss/disappointment is not now being able to see something you were obviously looking forward to.
Nope - the refundable rate was even more outrageous! The gig is 5 months away - I sincerely hope it is not health related as if is it must be very serious. According to CS&N he can be capricious.
Apparently heās had multiple health problems over the years and itās also reported that he had a serious onstage accident a few weeks ago. Sadly it does look as though it could be the last time heāll tour the U.K./Europe.
I saw Andy fairweather low on friday, he did a 90 minute set and was brilliant. He is pretty much on tour until February 2027. At 77 years of age i donāt know how he does it. So for Neil at 80 feeling he cannot do a tour suddenly is understandable to me. I am 67 and my wife 60 and we are thankfully fit, but we still think can we be bothered to go and watch a gigā¦ā¦..let alone be the artist on the tour.
I have long thought that the reason so many musicians carry on performing long after us mere mortals have retired is twofold.
Firstly, they enjoy it. It must be quite a buzz being able to hold a large audience on your every note & I doubt it diminishes with age. The big stars presumably have little need to top up their fortunes on their 8th/9th decades.
Secondly, & more importantly, I suspect that they feel as long as they are performing they will stay alive. So if they feel well enough they will continue giging. My musical hero, Eric Clapton, said about 20 years ago that he was too old to continue touring. At 80, he is still continuing to do so.
Unfortunately, my guess would be that Neil, or someone close to him, is suffering serious illness to cause the cancelation of a major tour.
