Network Cables - what's the best?

Does the cable function without the groundbox?.

I wonder how this ‘discussion’ would change if Naim introduces a Superlumina Ethernet.

Never, Naim know what is good and what is snake oil.

Not so much that your brain falls out

Yes but then losing the concept having a free float shield that drains to the box. Similar idea as Nordost Qkore, Chord array, Shunyata etc use today but Entreq has been doing it for more than 20 years.

Remember the fierce discussions on the old forum on power cords before, and around the time, the Power-Line was introduced? ‘Find & replace’ power cord - network cable.

Anything other than Lavender changed the Naim sound. Anything other than kettle leads changed the Naim sound. Anything other than NACA4 / NACA5 changed the Naim sound… but if Naim produce replacements which change the sound its still the Naim sound, only different :joy:

You’re kidding, right? No other audio brand does nuanced set ups/snake oil like NAIM. I think that’s where the ‘cult’ reputation it has in some circles comes from.

Did you not see that HH is using a £700 Naim remote controller!!

I do not think it has anything to do with snake oil?

Another time, another space, sometimes some simple technology like a Naim remote costs a fortune, a Naim CD 555 also costs a fortune.

Yes, it’s true. There are always some weird individuals who claim to hear something because they did or bought something, and even stranger there are others who believe in them, who follow them, and then a cult is born.

I think you’d agree that a CD555 costing a fortune was something to do with its improved sonic performance in comparison to, say, a CDS3. A remote? On another thread, a £10 remote is being suggested.

I’d love to see the scientific measurements proving the spinning of a Burndy makes it sound much better.

The science goes a long way back (1955). It all began with Luigi Galvani’s seminal paper “The effects of electricity on muscular motion”, which you can find in the Burndy library here.

One of the many complex reasons I’m moving slowly away from Naim is the clear and obvious deterioration in sound when a Burndy becomes rigid. Life is too short to bother with periodically powering down to liberate cables.

It reminds me some experiments at school, with frogs.

And yet they sell are circa 800 quid power cable and multi thousand pound speaker cable. Companies will sell anything if people will buy it.

Assuming that was a reference to me…

Then again you have made the same mistake. NEVER did I say that the cable won’t work well in his system; just that because it works well in is system, doesn’t mean that it’ll behave the same way in other systems.

If you are going to criticise me, criticise me for something I have written, not for something that I specifically HAVEN’T written.

A drain wire isn’t a shield.

And you still owe me that retraction of your prior unfounded insult.
