A mate has bought a nice pair of Focal Aria 926s that he’s currently running off his old Roksan Kandy K2, which he appreciates is a bit of a mullet. He’s always shown interest in my Naim kit, so I’m wondering if one of the many reduced Nait 50s around would be a good option for him.
Fairly big room, listens almost exclusively to classical.
Looks like a good enough match on paper but the only way to really know is to hear it at home.
If picking up from the store then hopefully he can borrow a dem unit first. If buying on the Internet or over the phone (in the UK) then he’d have the right to return (for any reason) which wouldn’t be much fun for the seller but they must know the rules and be willing to take that chance. My dealer doesn’t offer ‘distance selling’ for this reason.
I’d be very doubtful. These big multi driver speakers can be a handful to control with a modest amplifier in a large room. Focal suggest 40 to 250 watts; the Nait 50 has only 25. A Supernait 2 or 3 would be my choice.
The Focals have a relative high sensitivity at 91 db. The N50 has a modest figure in terms of power but a whopping peak performance, so unless his playing really loud in a large room I would guess he will be fine with it.
I’ll suggest it, but nowhere I can find reasonably near him has any for sale and he’s got no desire to go down the eBay route for something so expensive.
I sold my Supernait 3, NDX2, XPSDR and ProAcs on eBay. All sold within 24 hours for the buy it now price and the four buyers were totally satisfied. Of course, one needs care to identify good sellers and I can understand your friend’s reticence.
