New Headphones and More

Yesterday I was discussing with my dealer some new headphones, but interestingly he told me that later this spring the first new Naim product post the Barco takeover would be launched.

The UnitiMove is a "Statement on the Go” portable player. Machined from a single block of anodized T-6061 aluminum, it features the iconic weighted volume dial—now miniaturized and located on the top edge for tactile “pocket-scrolling.”

  • The Display: Utilizing Barco’s Pulse processing, the 11-inch screen delivers a 4K “Reference Grade” interface, making album art look more vivid than the original vinyl sleeve.
  • Storage: A bespoke 4TB solid-state “Music Vault” capable of housing 600+ albums in 24-bit/192kHz FLAC.
Revolutionary Engineering: The FlatDac. Apparently Naim have discarded traditional off-the-shelf chips, and have developed the FlatDac. This proprietary conversion system utilizes a planar-array architecture to eliminate timing errors (jitter) completely thus eliminating any performance degradation when travelling. By laying the DAC components in a strictly horizontal, non-stacked alignment, Naim has achieved a “flat” signal path.

Other key features:

  • Focal-Optimized Output: A dedicated 4.4mm Pentaconn balanced jack, factory-tuned specifically for the Utopia and Stellia range.
  • The Power: While portable, the UnitiMove includes a rear-mounted mini Burndy connector. For improved performance, users can tether it to the new NPX Move an upgraded external power pack.
  • Audio-visual. A Barco-inspired “Cinema Audio” toggle that widens the soundstage to 12.1 channels for immersive spatial listening while commuting.

UnitiCore users will be able to instantly download their collections with no corruption of metadata.

Price: £3500 for base unit, upgraded PSU £1200.
