New Naim Internet Radio - Feedback & Requests - Part 4

Hi @Lefebvre76380

Laut.fm is a ‘broadcast yourself’ network where end users can create their own playlist stations.

We don’t auto import all of these as there are 10000’s and many are of poor content quality / not maintained,

If you let us know the channel name then we’ll add it.
A search feature is on their website:

Hi @simon.pepper

I had a poke around on UPNP Device Spy / Validator tools today to see the events and state of the UPnP renderer interface when playing BBC stations.

Overall I can’t see anything wrong. No malformed messages, no out of sequence events, content seems good.

I’m guessing they have coded in some very questionable assumptions into the Bridge to decide when to allow the streamer to do its own thing (aka it plays local services like radio) vs the Bridge is under control of playback and it bashes the UPnP interface to keep things under control. For example, slam stop states at it if renderer decides to do something else. Probably looking for certain URL’s like vtuner.com.

Do you know if there is any support for this product? I looked on the net and it indicates that it’s no longer manufactured (out of stock with a statement saying they can’t get the parts) and I couldn’t see any forums / support channels for it.

Hi Steve,

Many thanks for looking into this, especially as you don’t have to. When the SonoreUPnP Bridge is stopped, the BBC stations in iRadio play just fine, so your product is working in this area without issue :grinning:

I also believe that the UPnP bridge is basically bashing the UPnP interface in the renderer and making it play the provided stream, given that the renderer is not requesting it from a UPnP server, as in normal DNLA type operation.
However, it does work and the Roon integration makes for a good experience, and the SQ is equivalent to the stream coming from a UPnP server such as Asset or a Naim Core.

In terms of this product, there are two manifestations:

  1. A software ‘App’ available within the SonicOrbiterOS that runs on the Sonore UltraRendu and SGC SonicTransporter platforms
  2. A dedicated appliance offered by SGC (Small Green Computer) that just runs the SonoreUPnP Bridge under SonicOrbiterOS. I believe loading of other components is disabled in the GUI, to provide the appliance level operation.
It is this product which is listed as having the supply chain parts issue, as it was RPi based, but I think it has basically been withdrawn. I would imagine that SGC would prefer to sell a complete SonicTransporter product, which is a Intel CPU based server for the Roon Core, storage for a Music Library and can run the SonoreUPnP Bridge alongside.

I run the SonoreUPnP Bridge on a UltraRendu. Sonore loosely supports this through the forum and the group here Including SonoreUPnP Bridge with SonicOrbiter OS 2.9 - Page 3 - Sonore (Sponsored) - Audiophile Style
But as you can see there is little activity. The latest release on SonicOrbiterOS 2.9 was a late addition prompted by a few users, and I would say will be left ‘as is’ since it is deemed operation and stable on this latest version of the SonicOrbiterOS. There doesn’t seem to be any move to a later version, as they have had issues with the latest Linux 6.2.x & 6.6.x kernels (current version is 6.0.x based)

The underlying component for the UPnP Bridge was actually developed as the ‘LMS2UPNP’ plugin to LMS (or whatever it is called now), as an OpenSource community developed element.
The Github page is at GitHub - philippe44/LMS-uPnP: Integrate UPnP players with LogitechMediaServer

Now I do have a version of this, deployed to my RPi2, as also part of my fallback measures, alongside the Asset UPnP server.

Let me stop the SonoreUPnP Bridge, enable this instance and see if this interferes with the BBC stations in iRadio in the same way, to see if the problem exists in the core library of LMS2UPNP or Sonore’s version.

Also, if you provide a link to the UPNP Device Spy / Validator tools you are using, so I can see what errors are being thrown on the network, to see if this sheds any light on the issue.

Hi @simon.pepper

Can you email at steve.harris (at) naimaudio.com and I’ll send you the UPnP tools. They are no longer available to download on the internet, but have my private stash.

Will do.

Quick test between SonoreUPnP Bridge (version 1.0.17) and a deployment of the LMS2UPNP (squeeze2upnp 3.x.x from 2/2022 - I don’t update this version) and the BBC stations on iRadio work with LMS2UPNP enabled in Roon with the SonoreUPnP Bridge Stopped.

The LMS2UPNP is always running on the RPi2 just not normally enabled as a Roon Endpoint.

The SonoreUPnP Bridge has to be stopped from the GUI before the BBC stations via iRadio play correctly, so it is definitely the SonoreUPnP Bridge instance that is doing something odd/strange/incorrect.

NAC-N 272, just updated to 4.9
Checked app on Android and iPad - both appear up to date.
My questions:
1 on the iPad there is no search button anywhere to be found! What am I doing wrong here?
2 on Android I’ve tried searching for many of the stations mentioned in threads 1-4 but all I get is ‘No results’. Any ideas?
Many thanks for the huge amount of effort that Naim are putting into this!!
Martin

  1. Should be top right of iPad, look for magnifying glass. (But really wouldn’t worry search doesn’t really work terribly well).
  2. Go to iradio, Search via location and brand or genre. Searching for name of station won’t really work.

I was looking for somaFM Groove Salad as an example as it received quite a few mentions at the start of thread 1.
In the case of Android, then, the answer was to Google (other search engines are available) to determine that somaFM are based in California. Then, in the app, navigate to international|North America|California, then search.
In the case of the iPad, there is no magnifying glass when iRadio is first selected - it only appears AFTER selecting something from the first screen. Again, I have no idea how I would have found somaFM if it were not for searching the interweb first.
Thanks for the reply - Martin

Hello Naim team,

Would it be possible to add this radio station , Pokoe FM , Radio PokoeFM – rudge entertainment , from the Netherlands?

After the update it disappear from the list on my Naim Muso 1.

Hi @Lomba
re: Pokoe FM.

Hopefully this is the right one:

Hi @boggit

As you are on a 272 (which is a legacy platform product) they unfortunately don’t have a radio search feature. A case of have to find the stations by browsing. Normally the best way if hunting down stations that are international is work out the country that it’s based in. Once there, browse to that country and if a popular network use the brands view, other do a ‘browse all’ and it will show all stations for that country.

Thanks, Steve - that is exactly what I did do to locate Groove Salad, as I explained.
Good to have the proper explanation of why I had to adopt that approach.

Hi, I have a new Uniti Nova with the FM module installed. All stations work fine except there are no logos/thumbnails for my FM presets. If there some way to include these or can I manually upload them? Many thanks.

Hi, i am a listener from the Netherlands. I like to request to add the following Iradio stations:

danceclassic.eu
disco-radio-action

I’ve found a number of 24/7 Online Radio Group stations in the United Kingdom section, but I can’t find 24/7 SciFi Radio.
https://www.247onlineradio.com/24-7-online-radio-group-stations/24-7-scifi-radio/
I’d be grateful if you could add it when convenient.

Thanks in advance,

Alan

Hi @RLI @segelmatt

We added the two disco/funk centric stations this morning. @segelmatt wins first prize for finding them first.
