New Naim Internet Radio - Feedback & Requests - Part 6

not working for me in Ireland - is it restricted to UK? I can see and select it ok but it reverts to normal Radio 3 when selected

It’s playing a different audio stream from Radio 3 currently. But I don’t know whether they have finished configuring it yet. The DAB transmission of Radio 3 Unwind is approved but not in place yet.

I have a MU-SU and a MU-SU QB both 1 generation.
After update to Naim internet radio I have problem listen to Danish national radio P5 there are only the option to select the high bitrate and that is very slow to change canal and falls out now and then(ones a minute). I have fiber internet with 1000Mbit the MU-SU is connectet by wire and the MU-SU QB is running WiFi and is the same on both systems.
Is it possibly for you to make it possibly to select normal bitrate on the Danish national radio P5?
Regards John

Hi @Jojeta

There are various regional P5 stations but they all seem to offer HD and SD.

So, if going to the DR public radio view:

Next up pick regional:

Pick one of the P5 regional channels:

Then pick the SD. That shoukd then play the mp3 variant:

If it seems unhappy on the network, suggest remove the power from the Muso, wait 20seconds, plug it back in and see if things are better.

if the views in the app don’t look anything like my examples, terminate the app on the phone and restart it. It might be remembering some history of last browsed of when it was using VTuner.

On a pre-bluetooth Uniti2, upgraded to new firmware, which worked with Radio 3 HD fine after the roll out initially. But now I experience frequent drop outs to the point I cannot listen. And I have a similar experience with Danish DR P8. Is there anything I can do to correct this?

Hi @Redfoliot

As this will require various steps to diagnose the problem, can you contact our helpdesk who can provide the support you will need.

This thread is really intended for missing or inaccurate radio stations in the system.

As a spot check i ran BBC `radio for a few hours on a similar product and it didn’t have any dropouts. This was from Surrey, UK location.

Thanks very much, I will do that.

I have got 2 bitrate choices for Radio 3 Unwind, and they are both working. However, I don’t quite understand why they are playing different streams. But, more importantly, neither of them gives any indication of what is Now Playing (in contrast, of course, to BBC Sounds). Can anyone enlighten me?

Hi @Rogert366

I think you are using one of our older streamers (Muso/Qb1, green screen uniti/streamers). These products have issues on playing some of the very latest spec streams we expose in areas of the radio directory. In this case the streams have time shifting support and ot confuses the playback engine,

On newer products (most products launched from 2017 onwards) they can handle them fine.

Thanks very much for this reply, Steve. Yes, I am using one of the older streamers.

Hi @Stevesky would it be possible to add an alternative stream for RTE Lyric FM to the directory? On the existing AAC stream they have recently started adding commercials and jingles so when you select the station you’re hit with these prior to the actual programme commencing which is a bit annoying, perhaps it’s on all they’re streams now. Thanks

Hi Hollow,

All of RTE streams come from the same distribution backend now - Streamtheworld so changing the encoding format won’t make any real difference.

As a geek out there is an API into Streamtheworld to enumerate this encoding mapping. Lets do RTE Lyric:
https://playerservices.streamtheworld.com/api/livestream?station=RTE_LYRIC_FM&transports=http%2Chls&version=1.10&request.preventCache=1679214528474

So they have:
RTE_LYRIC_FM - MP3 160kbit legacy
RTE_LYRIC_FMAAC - HEAAC v1 96kbit - intended for mobile.
RTE_LYRIC_FMAACLC - LC AAC 128kbit - intended for home devices.

We expose the LC variant in the radio directory, but sadly changing won’t influence their advertising strategy.

Steve

Ok Steve, I suspected that might be the case but thanks a lot for checking it out

Hi @Rogert366

Based on the equipment being used you’ll find the ‘HD’ stream will be correctk while the SD will be incorrectly time-shifted. On newer products both stream variants play as intended.

Hello,

I’ve been waiting for a while, hoping my favourite stations would start working again. Since they are still available on vTuner, it seems they have been removed from the Naim station list. Could you please add these two stations back?

—> ORF FM4
—> Smooth FM 103.0

I used to listen to the radio stations every day, so it’s very inconvenient that they’ve been removed. I would appreciate if they return. Thank you!

Hi @yve

We have those stations already:

In International->Europe->Austria->ORF you’ll find Radio FM 4

For Smooth FM 103 I believe you’re referencing to a Portugese station (it no longer broadcasts on 103MHz). We have it here:

Browse to International->Europe->Portugal->Brands->Smooth FM.
The full network for that station is mapped.

I note that the artwork metadata is still missing for NDR1 STATIONS. TRACK DATA SHOWS BUT NO ARTWORK. Apogies for shouting, caps lock got stuck!

OK, thanks, Steve.

Thanks for mentioning the tree-based search! I wasn’t able to find these stations using the search field—it seems to be very sensitive to how the station name is saved. That tip was really helpful. Also, many thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Hi @yve

I’ve extended the search key words for the Radio 4, Austria as it needed a few more vital words to improve its search rank.

The Portuguese Smooth FM one is a tricky one as there are sooo many Smooth FM’s around the world. I had to look back at vtuner to appreciate what their reference was (which is out of date) to resolve it to the Portugal one.

For reference, the search engine prioritises stations in the users country, so searching for ‘Smooth’ in uk and ‘smooth’ in portugal gives different weighted results.

Steve
