I see that this week, Rega has released an ECO version of the Planar 3 priced at £499 announced last month but dealers seem to have them just now.
The ECO 3 is a Planar 3 RS (using the same base) but made with parts that have been rejected from first condition production with small cosmetic only faults. Rega says they are to the same spec sonically.
I suppose it is a bit of a hybrid of the normal and RS planar 3 model, as it does not have a separate power supply. The £499 price is without a cartridge, so an ND3 or ND5, for example, will bump the price up by around £200-300. The power supply can also be retrofitted.
Still cheaper than a normal Planar 3, so if someone is on a budget, it could be worth considering.
