Hopefully buying a place by the seaside this weekend, a second home/holiday home.
Looking for a system to use, don’t want to go big or expensive. It doesn’t needed to be able to blow the windows out, and as small as possible, but with a nice sound that i can just sit back an just enjoy.
Was thinking about using my wiim ultra as a source and then either small active speakers or maybe a nait and small speakers. Or maybe there is something else worth hearing?
As said i don’t want to spend too much just in case it goes missing, so at the same time i don’t want it screaming out steal me.
Not bothered about using the wiim, but i have it, or maybe something like an atom???
I do think i want it to be naim as i feel it will bring me more sound for the outlay. Plus i know quite a few have built up quite a bit of experience with systems like this that i would like to tap into.

An Atom could be a good choice. An HE would of course be good other than that it restricts your choice of speakers a lot. Far better than a regular Atom for headphones if that’s a consideration.
The regular Atom is great in smaller spaces with the right speakers although it’s no powerhouse. Mine was disappointing with my N-Sats, and I was about to write it off but it’s excellent with my little Shahinian Larcs, and no doubt would perform well with plenty of other easy to drive speakers.
Hadn’t thought about the muso. I have the original one that we use every day as a tv sound bar and with the wiim to stream, so don’t know why i didn’t as i think they are great and a good shout.
But i think that after a while i might want more, but i could be wrong.
Nait 50 and speakers is probably going to be slightly more than i want to spend, plus it most likely will be far to good, make me feel like i need to do it justice and ao end up with source and speakers well over budget. But i am sure it would be nice.
So some ideas for something in between i think would probably be ideal. I also have a mojo2 that i could use, but that’s about all.
But i don’t want to over comp things.
I’ll add my voice of approval to the suggestions for a Mu-so2. It’s a brilliant device and sounds great.
We just got back from vacation and took a Mu-so Qb2 with us, to play in our rental. It worked out great. I would have taken the Mu-so 2 if I had more room in the car. Maybe next time.
An Atom sounds like a very fine and obvious choice. Nevertheless, as you already own a Wiim streamer, how 'bout a Rega IO + Kytes or Dali Sonik 1’s ? Ok, it won’t be Naim, but it’ll have all the PRaT one could ask for, it’s affordable, small, easy to place and the amp + speakers will have great synergy.
Naim CI 102. Speakers of your choice. Hide it away. In wall speakers might work if worried about security. I use an Atom (CI not available at the time) and Totem in-walls every day. Never disappointed.
There are also plenty of preowned Novas out there that can drive many a speaker really well and have a very small foot print. Depreciation is already built in and they hold their value. Used to have one as the centerpiece of my second system and was extremely happy with it.
Not in the U.S. they don’t. I haven’t been able to sell any Naim for even 50% of retail in a long time. Resale values keep plunging. I hate to think what I’ll get for my 252/SCDR/300DR that I anticipate selling later this year. I think if I get even 40% I’ll be lucky. I have a Fraim base listed for about 40% of retail and it’s not moving after 40+ days.
I was only referring to preowned Novas, if you buy used you will not take the massive 40%-50% upfront depreciation. I was able to sell mine for basically the same price I bought it for, and they are surely in higher demand than a rack …
