New SN3?

Is a new sn3 coming out, or super duper nait? It seems as though there is a gap between old sn3 and the new classics 222. 250 etc that u can drive truck through? Its a big jump from sn3 and nd5xs2 to the new classic stack. Seems like naim is pushing us to other brands. Exposure is becoming more interesting to me.

I believe the SN3 was reluctantly discontinued because of component supply issues rather than Naim “pushing” people towards Exposure or any other brand. For the same reason I don’t think they have a replacement waiting in the wings.

There’s an existing thread on the subject which you might find worth reading: SuperNait 3 discontinued

SN3 prematurely retired due to component unavailability.
Naim did the decent thing and retained parts for future servicing to ensure ongoing support. :+1:

I’d bet Naim is absolutely capable to release the replacement on the different component base.

I doubt it will be another SN3, more likely a NC Supernait.
Bet they have it on test bench.

Exposure did some nice amps back then, haven’t heard their latest.
I went from SN2 to SN2/HCDR to Rega Aethos.
If possible try listening to the Rega, its a stunning amp.

It is with quite speculation that there may or may not be an SN3 replacement though some hint lingers but no concrete confirmation or maybe there is within Naim - Focal to suggest otherwise. It seems Naim-Focal have been streamlining, moving away from the classic line components. Revamping it to the latest incarnations focusing on integrated amp streamer, all in one streamer and standalone streamer options though remains the XS3 thankfully. I’m wondering though the possibility of a 200 series SN3 of an integrated 200 and 202 design employing the same added features and of 70 watts per channel. In any event though remains the speculation replacement of the SN3 or not.
It has been some many years since learning of Exposure but not have auditioned the latest either though in my opinion would agree to be an alternative to consider. Presently I have the XS and the XS Flatcap and have for some time considered a second turntable and a streamer sever which for me the features of the XS3 out ways the alternative though not having the XS3 option and not keen on the latest Naim –Focal incarnations, Exposure would be my go-to option.

SN3 was a great seller for Naim so logic would say a replacement at some stage would emerge

However in the world of fast moving HiFi maybe logic doesn’t mean anything anymore

Naim no doubt have done or are doing their market research

I’m wondering about the possibility of a 200 series SN3 with an integrated 200 and 202 design employing the same added features and 70 watts per channel, but at what price range? On the other hand, the XS3 is available, though not having that option, Exposure would be my alterative choice

Can’t imagine what components in a SN3 would be unavailable - it’s not digital or optical(?)

Like you, I asked myself the same question?

The components in Supernait 3 are also found in other Naim electronics, except perhaps for a shortage of certain CMS components?

Then, I think the range would need a partnering 200 series streamer as well. I certainly see a big gap between the Unitis and the 200 range, but not entirely sure whether Naim does.

This was the announcement in January.

A bit of an over site on my part but I guess Naim would need to design the 200 (202/200) integration as a Streaming integrated amplifier though whether Naim-Focal would or has considered the idea remains to be an unknown certainty and the speculation of the SN3 replacement incarnation continues to excite interest.
What is for certain though the Supernait 3 was one of their best amplifier products in my opinion and is with great disappointment it is the end of the Naim Classic replaced by single box systems and higher end separates to address a younger wider market.
Since Naim-Focal transition would it even be in their best interest to consider an SN3 replacement let alone a (200)202/200 streamer integrated design despite the gap.

Have Naim discontinued the ND5XS(2)? The website suggesting still available.

Yes, you’re correct; the SN5 XS 2 is available and I stand corrected. A momentary lapse of mistating on my part; my bad

Having owned a SN2 and demoed Exposure’s top integrated, I’d say there is quite a chasm between Naim and Exposure to my ears. Naim’s SN is line fast, aggressive, and unforgiving to poor source material. Exposure is more laid back, easy-listening, and compliant with poorer source qualities. Naim keeps you constantly involved with the music while you can happily fall asleep listening to Exposure.

Naim recently had issues around the lack of supply of electrolyte capacitors used in the classic series, 500 series and Statement. They are available but in very small numbers and forced a last minute redesign (well tweak and substitution) of the 200 and 300 series right before launch. In fact the PCBs are still printed for coaxial caps they no longer have, which are now radials of another brand.

The 500 and Statement stuff is probably selling in numbers low enough to be satisfied by supply. But the SN3 probably sold too many to make continued support viable.

My educated guess tell me these caps were the likely reason.

I never really understand the lack of parts quantity.
We can fly to the moon, why can’t someone manufacture a few parts ?

Exactly…

Naim don’t make the parts though so I doubt they can answer that either.

But supply and demand probably plays a large role. Either demand globally went down so the maker cut production, or demand went up and the comparatively small number purchased by Naim put them at the back of the list with long lead times and sky high prices.

FWIW, people aren’t exactly rushing to the moon. The fact even unmanned probes are newsworthy is due to it’s exceptional difficulty and rareness.
