New speakers for 9 ft x 9 ft room

Why not play down the room?

This would be more or less symmetrical, and get rid of rear wall reflections.

Only one problem , the wife plus it just wouldn’t work with furniture arrangement

Rearranging furniture absolutely not an option? It wouldn’t block off that end of the room if you put peakers at right hand end of your designated area, firing left, with you sitting with your back to the left end wall. Sitting right up against the wall isn’t great, but if seat pulled a couple of feet forward it would not look odd this way, while it may with your arrangement. That could of course be done just when listening if unacceptable generally. An absorbant panel on the wall behind you would help - even better away from it with an absorbent panel.

(Rearrange wife? :joy: Having the hifi system properly accommodated has always been a primary consideration for me, in every home, and people I live with have had to understand that from the off.)

9’ x 9’ I’d be looking at a really good headphone setup and a Muso ll . Muso’s actually sound really good. And an excellent headphone setup for dedicated listening

Looking at your imgur image my first thought was that my Shahinian Obelisks would work probably very well in that slightly odd position. Since they share many of the key principles behind Shahinians, I reckon the iota’s could well be a good choice.

You haven’t indicated a budget. Meanwhile bear in mind that whatever the budget, secondhand or ex-dem gives it greater buying power.

Thank you all for the help, I have a budget of £1500 max which includes stands

Spendor A1 £1550 new so discounted/ex demo/second hand they might be an option, sealed cabinet so the room shouldn’t affect them as much.

The only significance of porting in terms of room interference is if rear ported and positioned very close to the rear wall. Otherwise for speakers having the same bass output there is no difference in room interaction between sealed and not, but in general sealed don’t go as low as ported designs unless very large, so they might be less likely to excite bass nodes - of course at the expense of a curtailed bass response. Much the same applies to small speakers compared to larger full-range designs.

If you got floorstanders, you could put Herbies Gliders under them. A bit of a leftfield suggestion but they make moving your speakers really easy. Could allow you to put your speakers against a wall when not in use and move they out to a better position for listening. I’d not do this with stand mounted speakers though as it might be a bit precarious. A bit of a faff perhaps, but could give you more options. I moved my speakers yesterday to try some different positions, and it was really easy.

Why not move the speakers over to left wall and shoot the sound down the rooms length ? You might even be able to gain some more space.

There’s the problem. Maybe you could ask for equal rights?

I have a similar room and I am very pleased with my Proac DB3s which give surprisingly good results in the limited space available.

Big oak sideboard , plus a door opposite

Years ago I used Sonus Faber Guarneri speakers in such a room. Great sound amazingly. The boys from Loud and Clear, my Naim dealer, agreed when they were visiting the house. Looked amazing too.

Very impressed with the Proac 10s with a atom after a demo, yesterday, I now thinking my Nova is not at its full potential in my smaller listening area, I could quite happily downgrade to the Atom, and put the extra funds to 10s , or shall I keep the Nova?

I had the Atom with Tab 10’s and absolutely loved it. Changed to a Nova and it wasn’t as good. Can’t explain why. However, IMO, Atom and Tab 10’s is a special pairing
