Newer unserviced vs older serviced amp

How does an older freshly serviced amp compare to a newer unserviced amp? For example, which would be preferred, a NAP250 that was previously DR’ed and was just serviced again by the factory, or an unserviced 5 year old NAP250DR? I’m having trouble understanding whether a factory service makes it as good as new, or is simply giving an old car new tyres.

A factory serviced amp should make it sound as per a new one. Any cosmetic marks may not be removed though.
I have used Salisbury twice for service work and Class A many more times.

My olive 250 suffered a near destroyed outer box, by the courier when it went to Salisbury.

My 252 was returned from Salisbury with an original wiring fault still at fault- just like it left the factory with!

I prefer to use Class A, quicker turnaround and cheaper. Plus no dented cases or legacy wiring faults not attended to.

It might be a case of newer amp is more expensive than older serviced one.

Newly serviced DR model won’t need servicing for 12 years. 5 year old one will need servicing in 7 years.

It all depends on the prices, what you want to spend and cosmetic condition may be important.

Nothing wrong with either. For me I have newer 552DR and older DRd 500. In the rack, noone would know the difference. Got good deals on both. Both in good condition.

I’d have no qualms about buying either.

As Dan says, factor in a service for a not-quite-new versus serviced item. My 252 was unserviced and an early one from 2002, but the price I paid was almost a steal. Add in a service, and I effectively got a new 252 for less than 40% of a new one.

It will make it essentially perform as new. Being a fully regulated power amp, the NAP250 of whatever age absolutely needs to be serviced every 8-10 years, as performance can drop off far more steeply than with an unregulated design.

Hi, I apologize for going off topic.
I understand that you have a TP Koltura D18 cable and had previously emailed TP regarding its direction. I just received my own D18 last week, but noticed that one end has a label reading “Power Supply to This Side”—which seems odd for a signal interconnect. I’ve emailed TP several times but haven’t received a reply. Would you kindly let me know which side the label is meant to connect to?

Im currently in the middle of China, so dont have access to my kit. If i have not replied by sunday, when i get home, remind me.

Thank you so much. I will. Hope you have a safe trip.

Right, its sunday and im back in sunny Kent.
My D18 has an arrow that points towards the amp, i.e. away from my source. In this case, my nDac, in case you are trying work out what it is.
I’m thinking he has fitted the wrong sticker. In which case i think he would have wanted to put an arrow like this, so try yours like mine.

Thanks for clearing that up! I’ve got the sticker end into my NDX2 as well, so sounds like I’ve got it the right way round after all. Appreciate you confirming!

Like all these things, try it both ways round. TP make some decent priducts but answering emails appears a challenge. I personally doubt TP or others actually try a cable batch and decide. But who knows?
These are decent ICs. Simplified my 2nd rig, nd5xs2/ndac/nait50/neat petite classics.
It sounds good.
