Building on the car photo above from @Jamiewednesday, here are some photos of Aston Martins taken at the Area 7 (Kent & London) Aston Martin Owners Club lunch back in early March.
First off is quite a famous race car (originally owned and raced by John ‘Jock’ Horsfall), Aston Martin Speed Model Spa Special (as raced at Spa 24 hours, Mille Miglia, etc.) - registration EML 129 - was a works demonstrator 2/4 seater and its first race is recorded in the AMOC register as Crystal Palace 1938. Converted to sports spec. for the 1949 Spa 24 hours where St John Horsfall finished 4th.;
hello Mark, we have been traveling with our van all over rural Morocco several times. People are so beautiful and welcoming in Morocco. This family invited us for breakfast, we had slept in the van when he passed with his donkey and told us to come with him… this time we agreed, you can’t accept all invitations, if you do you don’t move anymore. she started to cook omelets on a open fire, thats when the light got so nice. I asked for a picture, moroccans later told me that showing the plate is some form of showing that ““your welcome””.
Lovely story Stafan - I am glad I asked. It makes one realize what is important in life - I wouldn’t be surprised if many of these people are a lot happier and better adjusted than others with much more in the way of material goods. Such an invite would almost never materialize in the Western world.
Morocco is fast forwarding to the ““moderen”” world, in 10 years we have been 5 times. infrastructure like roads are build in light speed, in fact last time we have been there we did not like that at all, the fact that they reform it all. but why can’t they go modern? just since we like the idea of a romantic rural place…?
50 years ago, on a land trip to the Liwa, the LandRover convoy stopped at a well. I mentioned to the Colonel that it was pity that a road was planned, together with housing which would destroy the feeling of emptiness and isolation in this Empty Quarter.
I don’t recall his exact response, it was scolding, but along the lines of “what right did I have to subject others to a specific way of life for my benefit”
It was one of those life-changing moments. I think for the better for me. I’m still not entirely convinced for the people of the then Trucial States, now The Emirates.
I’ve just bought my first ”proper” camera at age 60! An Olympus M10 iii replacing a Canon S90. Still figuring how to use it, in “P” mode currently, but image resolution and sensor speed are a revelation.
The historic Central Camera, one of the very last brick and mortar photography stores in Chicago, a family owned business established over a hundred and twenty years ago was looted and burned during the protests last night.
Last night’s sunset was the classic fireball dropping below the horizon and definitely spectacular. However, I found myself looking for some of the more subtle sights, so I stuck around until 2245 to catch the afterglow, hoping it would reflect on the calm sea; luckily, it didn’t let me down. For the second shot, I tried a short left to right camera pan with the shutter open; probably as arty as I’ll ever get but I quite like the effect!
Terrible news, a lot of family owned/small businesses which might have survived the COVID shutdown may not be able to survive the added burden that the rioting, looting and destruction of property has added.
I have known the grandson who is the current owner since my college days in the eighties. I used to buy from them all the films and photographic papers for my photography studies. They interviewed him on TV this morning. He did not sound bitter and promised to rebuild and open his store again.
