No hi def on any Naim radio stations

I think that must be it.. my notable 192/24 stations are still there and sound superb - but they are displayed as FLAC bandwidth rather than sample-rate/bit-size in the index. So 192/24 FLAC displays as 4000 kbps

The playout screen they display as sample rate and bit size through

so @Geko you are having the same problem as me?
David

yep on my macbook which is not running the current app, Mother Earth displays as FLAC 192Khz 4201 Khz whereas on my phone running the latest app it shows as FLAC 24 bit 192Khz.

No, I mean how are they listed on audiophile.fm if they are named there? Assuming that info is up to date it should give you an indication as to whether it is the stations that have changed, or something to do with Naim or your player.

Certainly on Naim stations and radio Paradise. It shows 16/44, which I thought was standard def. If I go to the Mother Earth station it plays in high definition @4000kbs? What’s 1000kbs?

I get standard def on ALL hi def stations- this was not the case as of couple days ago

Strange. I can’t say I notice any sonic changes, just the fact that it displays standard definition.

same here
need advice from @Stevesky

1000kbps is normally what 44.1/16 as FLAC looks like

if you can’t see the super hidef stations I showed you - as per my screen snap shot from my Naim app - there is something wrong with your setup - or perhaps some geo locking by your ISP?

The 192/24 do play rather well - just like regular 192/24 content would do obviously. The DAC also see the 192/24 SPDIF framing stream from the NDX2 and identified and decodes correctly.

So all confirmed working exactly as expected here

geo locking of ISP?
Explain please

well if you can’t see or play those stations I pointed out - then perhaps your ISP is blocking the addresses, or the station is blocking you depending where you are in the world because of rights management. I’d be surprised if that that is the case but it is one of the only things I can think of.

Mother Earth Radio Klassik is particularly fine in 192/24 hidef.

I can see and play all the hi def stations, Simon
they just play at 44/16

Can you show a screen shot of your Naim app with the same stations I showed, and then a screen shot of your DAC with the res of the SPDIF stream or the play screen on your Naim app if using the inbuilt DAC in your streamer.

I have just checked and those streams are absolutely decoding as 192/24 framing as determined by an external DAC.. so not relying on anything from the Naim app display.

sure, simon but I am at work for the next 10 hrs so it will have to wait.
thanks

sure - I need to get back to work

Std cd quality= 16 bits x 44100 samples per second x 2 channels = 1411 bits per second.

24/96 = 4608bps.

I guess its very crude rounding off (to nearest 1000 below)

though remember the FLAC encoding

So 44.1/16 stereo

is 1,411,200 bps

FLAC compress and that can losslessly compress to around 1,000,000 bps or 1,000 kbps

4000kbps is FLAC compressed 192/24 stereo ie 6,144 kbps then FLAC compressed to provide approx 4,000 kbps

That is FLAC compressing the data to around .65 to .7 on average of the uncompressed original. Remember this is lossless like a computer zip file.

‘Hidef’ on web radio often refers to the use of non lossy codecs, not data rates per se.

Ah, good point, I had indeed forgotten they are flac compressed format, so reasonable indications, probably data actually less most of the time.

maybe the problem lies with the Naim app??
Will get to the screen shots later if I can.
Thanks Simon
