I wanted to order additional shelves for my fraim today but I was told by my dealer that it’s not longer available. However he couldn’t tell me why or whether there will be a replacement. Does anyone have more information?
I gathered on the recent forum factory visit that Naim were having glass supply problems (IIRC the Pilkington site that made the glass had closed down) and were in the process of looking for and evaluating alternatives. Obviously this has had an impact of Fraim supply for the time being - Fraim Lite though remains currently available.

naim seem to unfortunately be losing a product or service offering every few weeks 
(or at least that’s what it feels like!)

It’s just indicative of some of the supply line issues that can have an impact on production where you only have one supplier (often that’s all you can have with such low volumes). We had plenty of similar issues during my time at Naim; for example 20 years ago Fraim production was halted for ages while we tried to find a new supplier for the wooden shelves after Castle Acoustics closed down. Just one example…

Yes. naim being a small, low volume buyer from often a single source does seem to cause these risks.
There are plenty of DIY fraim threads or internet pages, hopefully naim can source a suitable alternative for glass soon! Of course all will need to undergo listening tests I guess….
Yes, I recall from the early days that the glass makes a surprising difference.

Hi everyone not I am in the market for a Fraim, now or in the foreseeable future but the topic of shortages of raw materials to produce or manufacture products for sale seems to be gathering momentum.
Jim Radcliffe has just stepped in and bought our last remaining chemical producer and we have government intervention in our steel industry that has like a number of British and European plus American companies benn desimated by a certain area of supply that has wrecked the pricing and profit of home manufacturers
I work for an industry that relies on cleaning chemicals for food production and we have seen the same supply issues
Yes we are at the mercy of the supply chain etc but we also seem happy to buy the cheaper products like cars that come into the country. Loosing manufacturers like Pilkington is a disgrace, and if we are not careful we will be seeing more including Denby.
I am sorry to be seem incensed but having worked for companies like British Steel during my youth, the next time we applaud a product not made in this country, Naim included, let’s stand back and think.

I know there seems to be a reason for all of these shortages but it genuinely makes me uneasy.

it’s just the glass. Not the first time that Fraim had to stop due to supply issues. Once Naim find a new supplier it’ll be back.

Indeed. Investment is needed but don’t hold your breath.
Me too. Naim are picky (and rightly so) about what goes into their products - greenhouse glass is cheap and plentiful but it won’t end up in a Fraim. Same with electronic parts, caps etc.

Good point … Naim being picky about the quality from suppliers is a good thing and certainly worth waiting for.
That said I am concerned for Naim re the loss of revenue from SN, Muso Qbe, no replacement of 25 year old 500 series, etc.

Great conversation I am sitting listening to a Bowie live rendition of Heroes in my modest system, CB, old classic and new with my magic Into’s leading the charge.
Please believe me I am not a flat earther to the degree that no one else can provide something of value.
But, how many more times can we go on convincing ourselves that all the engineering that Linn and Naim brought to music reproduction was great but we can sneak in another product, that is really there because of affordability or because we swallowed that the source doesn’t really matter
The latest pile of crap, a Harley Davidson turntable from a manufacturer who claims to be about best SQ for your buck, a complete joke.
Somewhere something got lost and the acceptability of what I can’t afford became the norm whether you like it or not an LP 12 was the source for Naim as the amps. Yes Rega have come very far but Technics, please removable head shell for convenience what the heck, we have sacrificed engineering for convenience. Bur unfortunately this is why we are were we are today
A sad endignment but the acceptance of poor sources convenience over quality and the attaching this to well thought out, well engineered pre and power amps leaves much to the imagination

Where I we? There was never been so many great turntables as today, be it Avid, Spiral Groove, Thales, Bergman, Clearaudio, Brinkman, SME, and thousands others brands.

Don’t want to be bore but I have just spent the last half an hour with a live David Bowie album and let me tell you source is everything.
The old CDX proving that source is everything, I said I wasn’t completely flat earther I can’t use a turntable due to arthritis in my hands, but I still fit the thrill with a CD
I am sorry to say that a lot of the issues here regarding speaker changes etc are maybe created by poor sourcei believe that source is all , I have maintained my CDX through all trying to upgrade amplifier etc to meet it standards and yes with a pair of Intros and a 250 SR in tow I can immerse myself in early Bowie or any other genre I choose. Particularly The Man Who Sold T h e World my favourite since it’s release in the 70,s. Love to all what ever you are listening tonight

I placed an order for a Naim Fraim with my dealer back in May.
I hope my order won’t be affected by this news regarding the Naim Fraim.
I don’t know. You should check with your dealer who can liaise with Naim.
