No service currently of DR products

If I remember correct someone wanted to do a service at Class A recently and got the same response. Component shortage.

The very earliest any of us will get any update from @NeilS or @Richard.Dane is tomorrow.

Many people appear to buy Naim because of the sound characteristics of their products. I wonder how many buy Naim because historically it has serviced its products long after they have stopped being manufactured?

I know this was a significant factor for myself. On the odd occasion when friends ask me for advice about buying hifi, Naim’s ability to service its products is the FIRST reason why I recommend Naim.

ā€œYes their stuff is more expensive but it’s quality that will last, and *if* a product does develop a fault, they carry parts so they can usually repairā€

I feel a loyalty to Naim and have no hesitation recommending them.

Sadly this approach has all but disappeared in our world, which is a shame because it’s environmentally friendly and reduces landfill. Servicing and repairing products may no longer be financially viable as a business model - I wouldn’t know - but while attempts to continue to do this are made, I will continue to buy Naim products and recommend them to others. I say this having recently benefitted from my NDX2 being repaired.

Hi
Well said my reason entirely.
I got burned by Linn twice having to write off a major multi box system and a more modest one because of no longer supported.

Absolutely. Sounds great and will continue to sound great = sound investment!

Apropos business model, I’d have thought that being able to charge for repairs on a product already sold is a way of capitalising on the original sales. I buy resoleable shoes for the same reason and the companies I buy from charge about ā…“ -1/2 the price of a new pair for the new sole. Mutually beneficial and an extra USP.

Indeed. We ended up sending our 3 boxes back to Naim Service Dept. And collected them 1st week of August, so all is good again.

Best regards, BF

You are the last. Don’t tell me that your birthday is on August also.

Lucky guy. :smiley::chicken:

See my earlier post. I will call the factory tomorrow and see if I can get a better idea of the component shortage issue. Not the first time it had happened, so hopefully nothing to worry about long term.

Thank you

I’ve been waiting around a month or so to get my two 555PS-DR’s serviced at Class A. I had a call from Darran on Friday to say he’d got the parts in to do one but not both of them.

Hope is not a strategy

Richard, if, only if, it became definitive, is it possible by Naim to service for example a 555 dr and replace the dr by non dr?

Better start praying then.

Why all this negativity before having information from Naim? @Richard.Dane and @NeilS said they will look into this tomorrow. Also it may be necessary at some point for Naim to change its repair policies. Also, when choosing a brand , if you had to choose only one factor, is it SQ or commitment to repair?

I want SQ and maintainability. It’s not either/or, but both.

Seconded.

That would be great, but if you could only choose one factor, which would it be?

Actually that IS great, and is where many of us are. Binary choices lead us back to Morton…

SQ without maintainability doesnt work for very long.

Why would you want to downgrade the DR?
