Node 2i with Naim DAC upgrade - less of an improvement?

I have the node2i and tried it directly into my 252. Very quickly I noticed less overall enjoyment of the music. When I then connected the Hugo mk1 things were a lot better.

I run my Node 2 I into the dac portion of my Rega Saturn R.

I try albums out using the Node/ Rega combo and then decide whether to buy on CD.

When I play the CD it’s quite a lot better than the streamer version, regardless of bit size.

But then the total cost of the CD player would exceed the price of the Node into Rega DAC.

I want to get a Nd5xs2 and see how that compares to the Saturn R.

I’m also curious to know what the EE8 switch would do for my current streamer set up. I now consider the switch pretty essential rather than an icing on the cake type upgrade.
