Nordost plugin sequence

Anyone running Nordost QBase 8 with a separates? What plugin order are you using for cables ?

It sounded really congested, I plugged the amp into the wall and things were better - looked at the manual and now I have

→ -> Empty /digital 555 / analog 555 / Preamp / Amp / [Empty]/ Empty / Empty

Figured if someone’s already tried it will save me the trouble of trial and error…

My qb 4 - source , pre, power — left to right

Follow the manual ..

There’s a nordost thread, you can get advices and discuss over at the thread .

The manual doesn’t say anything about two PSUs for source…

What cables are those?
I’ve got powerlines all around / got a 20A qbase so have a red dawn cable going into the wall…
Didn’t think of this when I bought the unit that the iec will be different

I’ve gone with option one above - source on one side and amp on the other. I guess I’ll just swap the digital and analog sides to see if there’s any difference

Yes you try that, for qbase , it’s always source on the first follow by pre , then amp and the last few you can plug on your PS . Maybe you leave one or 2 slots empty after the amp plugs, then the power supply . Give it a better flow and maybe not too congested in the end ..

The 20A is ok.. not so sensitive as according to my nordost dealer

I’ve got four cables - two for sources (the two 555 for the ND555) followed by PreAmp and Amp.

U can try the 2 PS at any 2 spare slots , have your nd 555 power plug into the allocated source slot , same to the pre and power.

Most importantly is to get the main components slots utilised , the rest is up to you for allocation .

Hope will solve whatever concerns you have .

Thanks! Yeah - I like the idea of source preamp and amp - and will leave emit alone. Sounds wonderful!

What does “not so sensitive” mean ?

20 amp carries more current only. So it’s ok .

So how they sound now ? Better ?

I’ll have to spend a day to decide. Even the ‘bad’ setup had sounded very good for months - until I turned the volume up…

But yes - I don’t have that congested feeling I had when I had the amp being the first thing connected.

  • what do you think of the Red Dawn as the cable between the powerstrip and the wall? I’m happy enough with powerlines since they come with the units 555/552/500 that I don’t want to change any other cables in that system.

  • for other systems where I don’t use a Nordost powerstrip what do you think of using red dawn instead of the audience Forte or naim cables?

You have a very good 500 system w the nd 555, I would say, a Frey 2 power might elevate much further . Frey 2 power cord are very neutral and natural. Maybe you can borrow one to try on?

And from there , you might feel that the red dawn can be little more bright .

Red dawn is good, your system deserve better .

If you need more low, heindall 2
If you need a more balanced output, Frey 2
If you need the best of the 2, tyr 2( very very good mid)

Get the best power cord you can from power to your qb8. You will hear the great difference .:flexed_biceps:t2:

And on top of all, it’s very quiet.

If not using any power stripes, you can still use your red dawn. But it won’t be as quiet nor having all the “goodies” the stripes can do for you

Try borrow a Frey 2 , heimdall 2 power cord to try, and you will get what I mean, through your ears :flexed_biceps:t2:
