I stumbled upon a YouTube channel with a video analyzing what carpet does and doesn’t do in a hi fi listening room. Respectful of a links policy I’ll just recommend searching for New Studio: “Do I need a carpet?” on YouTube.
Spoiler alert – he says it does essentially nothing helpful to hi fi sound. He recommends starting with bass traps. And shows sound absorption data.
