NSC 222 Rear USB Problem

Evening all.

For the 1st time since purchasing, I’ve been comparing USB Stick to other inputs. To start with using just the front input. Great sound from ripped CDs.

On plugging in to the rear USB input, the socket appears dead. No power to the stick at all. I’ve tried a few sticks and an SSD, all the same.

I pretty certain it should just work, no Settings to adjust. But Naim’s instruction manuals are not the best……… The ‘new’ app is pretty useless with broken links.

I think this is a job for Naim, but I really dislike putting £6200 boxes in the post…….

Maybe one of you clever people could assist.

Many thanks everyone,

If there is an issue then the first point of call should be the dealer who sold you the unit or if that is not possible your nearest Naim dealer.

They can help you and if it is necessary arrange sending it to Naim for repair.

The front and rear USB ports should just work. Nothing to change.
Should still be under warranty. Schlep it back to your dealer!

I suspect from what you have tried that you already know what you are doing, but just to check, how did you format your USB drive, and what sort of fees are on there - e.g. WAV/Flac/mp3/DSD

Also from the Naim app, are you going in via the USB option?

Hi.

It’s 128GB formatted FAT32 (same as the USB SSD I have) with a mix of flac and wav. Front USB is fine, rear USB is dead. I’ve operated the front USB via the remote and the app. If I flick to Server Mode, it sees the front USB but not the rear. Also, here’s a pic of the display……. Strange?

Thank you.

Just had a quick thought, maybe the 222 is seeing a partition on the drive, which is why it shows 2 Fronts.

My Atom has the had the same incorrect USB port display info since I bought it years ago, but the front and rear ports both work normally, so I suspect this is not related to your problem.

I’m sure I’ve seen that display on my NDX2 once a while back, which I just put down to a bug in the display side of things. It may be worth trying a reset first, but then it sound like your next move is back to the dealer

When I was testing out USB sticks on my NDS recently I discovered you need to format it the right way to make it visible on NDS. Even if I formated it to FAT32 it didn’t show up. Problem was I was formating a level below top level on the USB-stick. And the top level was not visible on my Macbook. Once I made it visible and formated the top level as FAT32 and “Master Boot Record” it all worked OK.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll give it a whirl.

Regardless, if the front USB port sees the drive, then the rear port should see it too.

NSC222 here supports USB stick in both front and rear panel.
Since you can’t use both sockets simultaneously, might be worth advising dealer in writing of the issue and ask that it be noted, so if your unit ever requires any other attention it can be fixed then.
Otherwise return to dealer for attention, since you can’t send direct to Salisbury.
Worth trying a few different usb sticks, which just a few files of a single file type and formatted using a different machine.
