NSS 333/NPX 300 Faults/Lower Volume Sound

I recently upgraded my NSC 222 to an NSS 300 and moved my NPX-300 to my NSS when upgrading the pre-amp to the NAC 552. Everything sounded mind blowing until last night. When I powered on my streamer the NPX-300 was flashing a code on its power button in a 2-3-8 pattern (two flashes, pause, three flashes, pause, eight flashes). When temporarily disabling the NPX-300 and re-adding the plugs or connecting through a different NPX-300 the sound’s volume is reduced and the sound isn’t as good quality - like the streamer is limiting the current through it for some reason. For comparison, the volume knob on the 552 is usually about 9’oclock (1/3rd full volume) and now after this issue I need to turn the volume up to 2-3 o’clock (2/3rd full volume) to get sound that’s similar to what I was hearing the night before - but still lacking clarity and detail. I’ve been experimenting with different Nordost power cables, but nothing that should cause a problem like this. I can only hypothesize the units are in some current limiting fault mode and just need to be reset - but there’s no documentation for how to do this. I did try to press the reset button on the back of the NPX 300 for 3 seconds with no luck. My next step is to send both for a repair, but I’m taking a shot in the dark that someone on this forum might know what’s going on here and be able to help me clear the fault or otherwise fix this issue.

Try a full factory reset of the nss300.

Further I’d factory reset everything.

I’ve had a couple of software related ’funnies’ when reconnecting my 200 Series after disconnecting/dusting/updating - a full factory reset resolved them all.

Good luck,

Definite fault, get your dealer to replace the item(s)

Thanks. Do you know where I can find the procedure to full factory reset the NPX-300 and the NSS-333? I can give this a shot. I’ll check the manuals again but don’t recall seeing it there.

Martin may be correct of course, however, the reset procedure is detailed in the 200/300 Series guides;

7.3 Resetting your NSC 222

To reset your NSC 222 to the factory default settings, use the remote control to navigate to“Home - Settings – Factory settings – Reset all settings – Yes” on the front panel display.

6.3 Resetting your NAP 250

To reset your NAP 250 to default settings, press the ‘Brightness’ button on the
rear panel for 3 seconds.

Don’t forget your NSC 222 will lose its network settings, remote pairing, internet radio favourites, etc. after this reset.

Oh, and make certain the NPX 300 to NSC 222 Burndies are fully connected and locked.

I concur, if this fails, back to the dealer.

Again, good luck,

ATB, J

Thanks. I’ll try to reset my streamer this evening when I’m home. Any idea how to reset the NPX300?

4.4 Brightness Settings

The brightness of the product logo on the NPX 300 can be adjusted using thepush button on the rear panel. If the NPX 300 is being used in Legacy Moderepeated short presses will cycle through the logo brightness levels.

Pressingthe button for about 3 seconds will cause the NPX 300 to do a factory reset.

I had tried this last night with no luck. Tried holding the reset button for 30 seconds and that didn’t work either.

I did a factory reset of the streamer (NSS 333) and that seemed to fix the issue. The NPX 300 is still not working but fortunately I have a loaner backup so I’m back in business. Still baffled as to what could have caused this.

3-5 seconds is enough to trigger the factory reset, however, as this did not resolve the issue, it looks if you have a faulty NPX 300.

Definitely time to return it to the dealer for a replacement.

Yep I’ll be having my dealer send the NPX for repair, but thankful I have a backup.
