Sinclair - my first amplifier!
Metrosound - my second amplifier!
Sinclair - my first amplifier!
Metrosound - my second amplifier!
We mustn’t overlook Townshend Audio in all this, and the contributions of the late Max et al.
They were lovely sounding, and excellent value at the time. I believe the Obelisk 3 was also available with a separate dedicated power supply called the X pack.
Any (ex) British made company now made in China?! one of the reasons i bought into
Naim was it was UK designed and built i look at makes such as B&W even make some of their high end 'speakers in China i recently read that all IAG products are made in the same factory
Talk a about cost of repairs/servicing? try a Nakamichi Dragon!
These I have as second systems on my desk at one time or another.
Two passed to my son now…
No doubt he will get my Naim boxes at some time too, but hoping for a few more years in my posession.
Wonder if we should count those companies thet are now owned by off shore hedge funds and equity companies - Leak and Quad to name a couple, there may be others.
Indeed, as much attention to the looks as to the electronics, and of course the sound.
I like and appreciate the lacing of the wires, not a cable tie anywhere, gets my attentioon immediately.
They are lovely sounding.
I had the Nexus monoblocks with an Ion pre-amp.
Basically this but the pre-amp was different as I had a special one as I was friends with the production manager at the factory.
They replaced a 42/Hicap/250!
With hindsight I wouldn’t do it again even though the Ion kit was excellent. I’ve learnt that going ‘obscure’ plays havoc with resell prices, especially if the company folds.
Keesonic Kubs, a two-way, bass reflex design produced by Peter Keeley, and built in a factory in Cookham Dean, near Marlow, Bucks, UK.
I had a pair, back in the dim and distant, and they punched well above their weight, (and size).
In their day, a bloody marvellous little speaker.
My first “proper” pair of speakers, were IAS IB2. Integrated Audio Systems, from Southampton iirc. Bought from Unilet in Guildford around 1982.
Monopulse speakers,
These names bring back a few memories. A friend had a large Lentek integrated at one point and a Crimson pre-power.
I had Heybrook HB2 speakers. I went to buy them and after we played them for a while one of the bass units started buzzing - clearly a fault. I phoned Heybrook and established how much a replacement bass unit would be - the price was reduced and off I went.
I had a Myst TMA3 too and I can’t remember what prompted me to sell it. It was a lovely, well made amp.
My CA352 is not going anywhere!
I had the power amplifier version of that… It got very hot indeed (Made a Musical Fidelity A1 seem tepid in comparison!)
Lentek also did a Moving Coil stepup amplifier. It was battery powered. The S4s were very smoooooth…
Yes @Richard.Dane – KJ WestOne do their stuff… it’s the ultimate in customisable kit. Lovely!
Myryad, who still appear to be in business, with mainly export market, made some very good looking, well made
I had Z-series CD player (Z110) and integrated amp (Z140) for many years (before moving to Naim 5si).
Not manufactured in the UK anymore, but Steepletone are a UK company.
