Given you already had the SCDR that feels like a no brainer! I love my 252, I was lucky enough to buy an ex-demo unit that had never actually been used so I’ve owned it since new.
The first few months I wasn’t sure what all the fuss was about, but then after it had clocked up a decent number of hours, it really started to sing. It is a great pre-amp and underloved in my opinion!
I’m about to send my SCDR off to Darran on Monday for a service. Really nice guy and sounds like it will be a quick turnaround time.
I messaged him about my humming SCDR and he basically turning my business down and referred me to the transformer hum thread on this forum. I want to get it serviced anyway so I am going ahead; but I really, really like it when a company does something like that. It makes me want to give them my money even more!
He won’t service the NDS, but will do the 555PSDR. I believe he will give it a once over and replace serviceable parts which are caps.
I believe the boards on the NDS are delicate and if there’s nothing wrong with it to leave it alone.
Like I said my NDS 2013 vs ND555 sounded pretty much the same so I don’t think they degrade over time particularly. It’s the power supply that needs doing every 12 to 15 years.
Almost every dealer offers part exchange because every dealer would prefer to help customers to sell their old boxes and buy new ones.
Acoustica’s secret weapon is that they can offer standard part exchange, but they also offer to sell customers old boxes on eBay if the customer would prefer that.
No other dealer has such a healthy and long established eBay seller site as Acoustica does, so in that sense other dealers cannot compete with Acoustica on that service.
You may well be disappointed and because used prices of anything are determined by how much something is in demand and people willing to pay not by a percentage of the original new retail price.
Occasionally under particular circumstances that can mean something could be sold for more than the new price.
This is an interesting one. I have bought and sold alot of Naim equipment on ebay and from dealers.
In general I worked out used price of 500 series kit to be around 35 to 40% of cost new. If newer then price increases above this point.
With resale of used Naim equipment I have generally sold it for slightly less than what I paid for it. The ebay fees took a large chunk out, upto 15% off any sale.
Now things have changed with fees. Demand for high end HiFi has gone down and dealers are struggling. Prices used have all gone down slightly. And buyers want more off. If it’s priced wrong it will just sit there for alot longer. I am still trying to sell some kit and don’t want to budge too much.
You may have to sell something for alot less if it doesn’t shift. Sometimes high priced used items are going for 25% of full price. It’s a good time for buyers but not great for sellers.
And the eBay system was to give at their whim occasionally weekend promotions where you were allowed to pay only 80% or 70% of selling fees, which meant you either had to wait and hope for one of those or do it in your own time at full selling fees.
I do wonder whether eBay are charging users other fees somehow to make up for not getting final selling fees?
It’s definitely a slow market. In the past Sarum T cables have sold like hot cakes but I’ve had mine listed a good 3-4 weeks. I’m the good news camp, the Din cable just sold at fair price which is essentially what I paid for it
I think you just have to be patient when selling high end gear and hold your price as not that many people buy it that often.
I have sold a few powerlines recently, a high line and some linn bits. Got 3 items on for sale and they are not shifting. I don’t need the cash but be nice to clear old stock!
Don’t like having old gear knocking about as it’s a waste of space and nice to see money in the account!
Yep, speaker cables have a lot of interest so hopeful they will sell shortly. The other cables are actually DIN to RCA. I got them meaning to have them changed to XLR but never got round to it. They will work for someone who has something like the NC222; but otherwise need changing back to DIN, which is a few hundred quid with Chord.
I know what you mean about selling on old stuff. The boxes sit around and take up space. Good to hear you have moved things on though and not surprised the power lines have sold. Always very popular on eBay.
