Phono pre-amps 2026 - Linn Linto distorting again

I’m not sure this is true.

Technology moves on, 25 years is a long time. Whether it’s streamers, CD players, amplifiers, your getting better SQ at lower prices these days.

There are a lot of talented people out there, designing high quality gear.
I know most people on this forum will recommend Naim, Rega or linn. That’s what they’ve been using for past 25 years.

I believe parasound make good quality phono stages at different price points.

I agree with you Keltik. I have a Stageline S for my LP12. But I found a Cyrus Phono Signature with PSXR2 and couldn’t be happier. As you say, it’s so adaptable, being able to change settings on the fly while an album is playing. It sounds considerably better than the Stageline as well.

Quick update, haven’t ordered anything new yet but seeing if local dealer can repair for me before major expenditure on other options. Looks a right faff to be honest due to shielded parts of the PCBs and surface mount stuff but more than happy for them to try. :+1:

I would recommend a Naim Prefix ,it is mounted inside the LP12 and can be powered by your Nac 282.
A Naim Prefix you can buy second hand for about
£ 300 and it easily outperforms a Linn Linto.

Surprising. Had not considered a Prefix, thansk for the suggestion.

I’m not certain that there aren’t several ills in my system, but will see if Linto can be fixed first.

I would say the Linto is a bottleneck in your fantastic Naim active system :sparkles:

Quite possibly, but if it can be fixed I can then compare against newer options to see how limited it might be!

Really tempted by looks and multiple inputs on new Cyrus model tbh as if and when I sort out the PT Anniversary the extra inputs could be handy. If I decide to ditch the PT then Prefix or Urika would make a lot of sense.

Naim Superline is also something to consider…
absolutely fantastic sound and Naim PRaT.

Yes, but no longer available new and I might be wrong but no longer serviceable. Have been keepin an eye out for one for a while (don’t do e-bay).

You could have had mine from Tony last November when I switched to the Urika II AC.
He resold it in just a couple of days.

Naim still service Superline, if there is a fault.

Yes, I think they will attempt to repair if there’s a fault but standalone service risks damage.

The Superline age well,so buy a late one and it will
probably work well for at least 20 years.

I also have a PT and a P10 and just bought a Cyrus Classic as it is deeply discounted after the 40 came out. I was really impressed and it was much better than the Rega Aria that it replaced.

Yes, I also found the Cyrus Classic discounted brand new and less than half the price of the 40 - a very tempting option given the multiple inputs, though I do prefer the newer design of the 40 - if there’s little in it sonically the Classic look to be a bargain currently.

Indeed I paid 40% of the price of a 40 for the Classic and I don’t care about looks. Reviews are always taken with a massive pinch of salt but the MM stage seems to be no better on the 40 but the MC is better but not night and day and not 250% better. You can even buy the upgraded power supply with the Classic which is also discounted together for less that the 40. A lot of great options for phono pre amps at the moment! The classic replaced my Rega Aria and the Classic is much better than the Aria - particularly for MM so I would avoid the Aria if that is on your radar.

Bizarre dream last night!

Dealer rang to say the Linto was politely stuffed. Then had some weird car stuff with Fagen trying to sell me new brakes which I hadn’t even asked them to test topped off with a visit to a covert operation somehwre in London after a missed train. Good food and drink, but how did Michael Douglas know me
