I am having a problem playing LPs on my system 332/333/NC250/NVCTT/Rega P9. The phono intermittently cuts out on the Naim app. When this happens, the phono input on the 332 corresponding turns off as well. This happens intermittently. Sometimes this happens after one side. Sometimes it makes it through the both sides. Sometimes it plays a few records. Any ideas? Very frustrating.
The Naim app has a phono input icon . In order to play records from the Naim app, without pressing the phono button on the 332, I need to select phono. I could always press phono button on the 332, but I don’t like getting up to walk to the components.
The other strange thing is that the 333 and 332 go into standby when the P9 is put in standby and stops spinning.
A combination of System Automation + Auto Standby will (or did - I turned Auto Standby off a long time ago) do this when playing records. When the 332 doesn’t detect the 333 sending anything it will wait for the amount of time you set with System Automation, and turn itself off. Even if you’re playing records. Great feature, don’t know if it’s been fixed ever.
if you don’t use auto standby and you forget to put it on standby at the end of a session the system will remain on - so using a little more power. i believe many OC owners keep their system always on for higher SQ - i haven’t read much about this for NC. i have auto standby off on my 222 and often leave it powered-up overnight - i haven’t noticed any problems and do find SQ a little better at start of next session - but that might be my imagination.
So the solution appears to be to disable auto standby, and to remember to put the Naims into standby manually at bedtime. Assuming system automation is set up correctly, a single press of the standby button in the app or on the remote will put all five boxes into standby. It saves power and the full SQ will quickly return when the system is next switched on.
Both my 222 system and 333/332 system shut down on TV or turntable (any input that isn’t the streamer) unless the auto stand by is switched to never. I do manually put everything into stand by mode at night.
There also seems to be a correlation between using the remote or not using it. Altering the volume I think ‘resets’ the clock as it were. So if auto stand by is 20 mins and you don’t touch the volume whilst playing a record the amp shuts down🤨
It needs some kind of music sensing device, to detect an input is active or something
There are a couple of other glitches I have come across, and I’m trying to replicate them in case they aren’t to do with the 222,333,332. I’ll post about them when I’m sure what is going on.
