Pics ‘From the Listening Position’

I’m really looking forward to seeing Van M in Birmingham March 19th. Seen him many times, first was 1974.

Sat here listening to some tunes but can’t help feeling envious of Bunty snoozing between those beautiful SBL’s.

Hi northpole
What material did he do? Was most of the set list newish material? Thinking of going to see him in Edinburgh, but wouldn’t want to go and listen to some of the stuff he put out during and just after COVID.

Hi Tobyjug,
I had to look up what discitis is and it sounds very nasty if detected early; and potentially very harmful if not. I presume from your anti-biotic treatment that you have a relatively early detection and can avoid any surgical interventions. All the best for as speedy a recovery as possible.

Hi Carruthersesq,
I’m afraid I kinda turn up and listen and not at all great with set lists, so I can’t tell you exactly. However, not all is lost! Van himself was his non-smiling self but he was in remarkably fine fettle on vocals, keyboard, guitar, sax & harmonica. I’ve seen him before when he didn’t seem inclined to delve into his instrumental repertoire, so I take that as a very positive sign.

I mentioned the band was very talented as they had to be to provide cover for the wide range of music offered up. There was some jazzy, some blues and some classic Van Morrison tracks. The ones I can recall include Moondance, Gloria, Whenever God Shines His Light, Vanlose Stairway (I’d not heard that live before and they nailed it!), Precious Time and others avoiding my keyboard just now!

Overall I thought there was a fantastic range of songs and music; and if the same is offered up in the following concerts then I would wholeheartedly recommend going to see the often grumpy, dictatorial perfectionist seeing out his seventies this year. Don’t hesitate!

Vanlose Stairway spinning on cd right now…from Live at the Grand Opera House Belfast. As preparation for March 19th Birmingham. And just played live at Orangefield…wonderful.

Great Peter, thanks for the response. I’ll go and buy tickets I think. Like you I have seen him several times before but not for probably 8-10yrs now.

He has such a lovely presentational style. Comes across as humble, respectful and encouraging of fellow musicians, and most importantly, a genuine lover of music, in all its forms.
