I also filled my Solidsteel stands with dry sand. (using a tiny funnel, and some painters masking tape, holding the funnel in place on the 8mm spike holes)
It was the first thing I did when I got them, even before putting the stands in their destinated place. Filling them for 2/3 was a bit of a challence in my experience, as you can’t see how much goes in. (I think I accidently filled them for about 80/90%)
Thanks for the isolation platform tips! I’ll look into it.
I also noticed there’s a dealer here in the Netherlands. The Blok rack is not available in the wood veneer I prefer though, so… I’ll probably hang on to the Ikea stand for a while.
The SoundBurger is connected to the Selekt DSM via Bluetooth—it took me an hour and a lot of questioning of different AIs until I could activate Bluetooth on the Linn.
I love the idea of not having to get up to change records. Seriously, the SoundBurger is perfect for playing records that I don’t want to get the stylus dirty with on the LP12. For example, my wife’s records.
How does it sound? Well, the LP12 is a little bit better. But I’d say it plays better than you’d expect, and probably better than the cheap Chinese turntables and DJ decks flooding the market.
What you don’t see: The whole thing also runs through a Naim 250.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say it can compete with a Planar 1, but you can listen to records without any stress.
It won’t be long before some morons start using inserts with Shibata styli or connecting outrageously expensive power supplies.
I think I’ll buy a second one for the office. I have hundreds of records in the basement, mostly duplicates or in VG or worse condition. It’s perfect for that. And if someone comes to complain about the loud music, the SoundBurger is quickly hidden in a drawer.
I have to agree with a lot of others here - very nice. With these stands it looks like a real piece of furniture. Or, maybe a hint of old-time film cameras on tripods. Something with history and something that says “we have experienced a lot together through out the years”. That was probably not your intention, but… anyway.
It’s important for me that the speakers blend in with my interior. To me it looks almost as if the Solidsteel tripod stand were designed for use with the Tablette 10’s in mind. (or similar LS3/5a sized speakers)
Now that you mentioned it… I haven’t looked at it that way (old-time film cameras on tripod stands), but…I see your point!
This time, dancing through the room with an alcoholic drink. The neighbors are on vacation, my family is on vacation. I’m making myself comfortable with the cats and some good music and I am beating the s…. out of the Harbeths. Well, it’s staying within limits, otherwise the military will come – Austrians don’t mess around when it comes to that; I’m no exception myself.
Thanks a lot, I’ll do it. I can’t have any more beer though. I need to be ready to drive in case anything happens with my mom, especially since I’m the only one who’s around right now. I’m always a bit of a worrier when it comes to that…
Enjoy it. I always enjoy the times when I’m home alone. Even though I have my own listening room, everything is even more relaxed then. I was just amazed when I read about the Austrian police. The “Veltlin” has been part of Italy for a long time… It almost belonged to Switzerland once in the past. But in Vienna and the police there, it makes no difference…
