Pink Floyd – Live at Pompeii MCMLXXII

This will be released in cinemas on 24 April. It’s the full original 90-minute cut, restored after being re-scanned in 4K from the 35mm negative. The soundtrack has been remixed too (from this clip, it’s been speed-corrected and the mix is notably drier than previously), in 5.1 and Dolby Atmos by one Steve Wilson.

On 2 May it’ll be out on Blu-ray and DVD, but also on vinyl and CD.

Vinyl tracklist:
Side A

  1. Pompeii Intro
  2. Echoes - Part 1
  3. Careful With That Axe, Eugene

Side B

  1. A Saucerful of Secrets
  2. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun

Side C

  1. One of These Days
  2. Mademoiselle Nobs
  3. Echoes - Part 2

Side D

  1. Careful With that Axe, Eugene - Alternate take
  2. A Saucerful of Secrets - Unedited

The audio from the YouTube clip above is available on all the usual streamers – Apple, Amazon, Tidal etc…

Interesting. But can you clarify what you mean by the mix being drier? Less reverb? If so that suggests the reverb was added in mixing the original, rather the captured in the recording.

Yes, less reverb than before.

Another purchase order to @Mike_S . In Blue Ray, of course.

Not really my Floyd era, but just grabbed these old DVD’s used. The SQ on “In the Flesh” is stunning.

Me too, not my PF era.
Animals, WYAH, DSOTM, the Wall, yes.
Enjoy your new purchases :+1:

Just Pre-Ordered the 4K Blu-Ray to add to my PF collection.
I have the Directors Cut DVD version, so this should be so much better for the video and audio.

I still cannot forgive the splitting of PF’s greatest track.

But as they say, “resistance is futile”…….and it will go on “Dad’s birthday surprise pressie” list.

Just got back from watching this at the IMAX in Ashford. Great to see it on the huge screen and the sound was pretty good too.
Some people in the cinema were actually applauding at the end.

I’m back from seeing it at the big IMAX in London- it was rammed. The sound and picture quality is jaw-dropping.

If forum members are planning to see this at the flicks, I recommend going to see it in IMAX if you can.

@elverdiblanco - people applauded at the end of the screening I was at too. To be fair it is a stunning restoration.

@TheKevster is that the IMAX at Waterloo?

Ashford was probably 75% full at most. I was expecting it to be packed out.

Are we talking Ashford in Kent? Just checked thinking I might pop over and not showing again until Sunday.

A Groan review to annoy Kev

Went to see it yesterday (Sunday) in Tunbridge Wells while the girls were pouring vino down their throats at the local Hotel du Vin. Unfortunately the sound was terrible - the bass was horrible and distorted (it sounded like a combination of rattling and farting), as if the woofers/sub-woofers had either blown or had perished. This rather detracted from our enjoyment of the film.

We complained/explained to the manageress and she was very sweet and understanding. Not only did she promise to get the sound engineer to look into the problem, she also gave us all free tickets to the film of our choice at any Odeon!
