You can get the Naim powerline cables here but they’re expensive and actually put together by our dealer. I own 3 and have 3 of the Isotek cables. I’m sure they make difference but I’m not sure I can hear it. As for Chris I don’t think there’s a member this side of the equator that doesn’t wish he was still the distributor.
In all honesty, probably best to get one/few secondhand from the UK as they are not that pricey, then get yourself or a sparky to wire in an apparent plug.
There are places servicing Naim gear here, the only issue is that they won’t be able to use Naim supplied parts - though I thought Westan was going to be able to supply them? I’m not sure whether having Naim supplied parts is a deal breaker though, as if it’s a recap and service, then non-Naim supplied parts are readily available.
Naim have spent the last 50 years saying that Naim spec parts and service agent are a must if you want to keep that Naim sound.
You could take it as older parts needed to be tested or production wasn’t as tight in those days because the tolerance of the caps/ bits were off a lot of the time, or you could take it that some parts needed to be a particular +/- bios to whatever Naim figured out or both.
Any none spec part will drop your secondhand value period.
It’s (was) part of the Naim culture to have an approved service.
It would seem the new importer is unaware of this as they have not ensured this to be the case. Or they don’t want to be involved in serving gear sold by the ones before.
The lady who answered the phone at Westan wasn’t that pleased I called them and that the dealer told me to call westan as he couldn’t help me. She was even a little sheepish, I was told that he shouldn’t have done that and wanted to know his company’s name. He was the nicest part of the experience actually and maybe the only honest one I dealt with afaik.
Seriously Mike it’s not looking good. Just a cluster mate for old school Naim fans over here.
On a side note I’m doing 880 km/h at 12193 meters (40,000 feet) on my way to Tokyo at this very moment. Looking forward to the secondhand lp shops and motorbike shops food beer etc. Doing it premium why not ![]()
Rather kool to be able to surf the net over Micronesia I must say.
Yeah, that’s pretty cool indeed.
Our local service shop are service agents for Westan. They did suggest that once they were bedded in, Westan should be able to supply parts, provided Naim were on board. I’m many years out from needing any gear serviced. When I get there, if the Naim parts are not available, then it’s probably a case of doing what you can and living with it.
The uncertainty does not bode well for the second hand market, and will be a barrier for new sales as well for some.
Enjoy Tokyo.
Yep - it’s a PDL940 that RMC were using. They’re not that difficult to switch to, although if you’ve got a “full-fat” PowerLine the conductors are very stiff and it can be a bit fiddly to get them into the pins.
For electrical certification, you’ll need an electrician to do the conversion for you.
Thanks for all your comment. It seems PDL940 is the best option, but it is really hard to get 80’s 90’s PDL940 now. Does the current PDL940 still performs good compare to other brand?
I think so, otherwise Chris M would not of used them.

I thought that I’d ask my question here, rather than start another thread.
I have just taken delivery of an AUS/NZ specd. Chord Company PowerHAUS and matching Signature X power cord with the 16amp connector and AUS/NZ wall plug.
My dealer said that the Chord power products have only recently been certified for our region. I’m keen on a power cord for my DAVE DAC and my dealer isn’t sure that he can get a loan Chord Signature X with the correct “D” IEC plug for the DAVE.
Basically he isn’t sure the Chord demo leads to lend out to customers might not be possible - for whatever reason.
Has anyone had a listen to a Signature X power cable with any DAC/Streamer and what their thoughts are ?
Signature X is my budget limit, I’d like to demo. that and a Siltech Classic Legend 380P power cable that I can get a hold of for a home demo. and see what I like best.
For set up purposes I only want these two cables to compare, I have an Isotek Optima EVO3 on my Innuos Zenith and it’s a very, very ridged cable that cannot be even slightly bent into place along my floor skirting board and such.
I tried it on my DAVE and it just wouldn’t sit flush on my rack with the DAVE. Was skewed and not to my liking - esthetic wise.
I used to use the Chord SignatureX mains cable on my Linn Selekt DSM: Edition Hub. However, did some playing around with all my cables and changed out the boutique cables for cheaper ones, including the mains cable.
After a while, put the Chord SignatureX mains cable back in to re-try and basically found no significant difference, there was Wow Factor.
This is just my system, yours may be different.
DG…
Funnily enough last night we listened to a signature power cable on my Linn klimax dsm which had been powered by a powerline. To say that we were gobsmaked at the improvement is an understatement. We did the same thing with my Rega aura phono stage and again the improvement was huge. All power cables were running from an M6
Interesting. What cable do you have between M6 and the wall socket?
We use an M6 with a Epic cable from the wall socket and Powerlines from the M6 to Moon amp and CD player and Melco. We chose the Powerlines due to space restrictions. Chord cables were simply too stiff to route properly. Powerlines are extremely flexible and much easier in this regard.
We have found the Powerlines to be superb sounding though. Could you attempt to describe the improvements with the Signature X? My dealer uses Signature X mains cables in his personal system and he has said that they can be a bit bright and sharp at the top end. Apparently Sarum T addresses this - at a cost of course! I was told by Chord that the Epic mains cable is in fact the old Signature mains cable before the ‘X’ upgrade.
M6 is connected to wall with a Music. Musics also connect to the Statement. My friend who is a big fan of sigx wanted to compare it to the Music as he believes the signature x is the sweet spot in the range but I was reluctant to power down statement pre to do this as takes an age to come back on song so we decided to compare to powerline. I wasn’t expecting to hear much when we tried it on the Aura first as we were playing vinyl at the time but we were as they say blown away by the change. My other friends first comment was it sounds like a different track and then asked whether I had changed the volume which I hadn’t. It really was a fundamental improvement . We then got the same result when we moved to digital with the klimax dsm
Some interesting thoughts, thank you all.
Sounds like the Sig. X could be system dependent and/or a bit hit and miss for people’s preferences and such.
But the Chord Music is a winner no matter want.
I think that I’ll have to go with the Siltech Classic Legend 680P. I can at least home demo. that one and it’s still a fair bit cheaper than even the Chord Sarum T, let alone the Music.
It’s also only a little bit more than the Chord Sig. X in my region, and I have no idea if I’ll ever get a demo. Sig. X available to home demo. anyway.
I know from personal experience that the move from Siltech 380 to 680 cables is massive. I did that via a I/C upgrade a few months ago and it surprised me how much better it was compared to the relatively modest price difference.
I’m two weeks into my Chord M6 and Sig. X power cable.
It’s a very, very good upgrade. Any AUS/NZ members who can have to change to demo. this remarkable product should do so.
Wonderful upgrade for not insane money either.
- A regular 6 socket AU/NZ power board is $10 at any store.
- The Chord M6 is $4500 and that IS an insane amount of money for a power board.
Just because we can, doesn’t mean we should. I for one can’t, but just saying ![]()
I’m sure Furutech make connectors for Australia? In Europe Naim use FI-E38 Rhodium which Naim chose giving best performance with their products, cable. If so I’d get a used Powerline and change the male connector. If you are not colourblind and can handle a screwdriver it is easy to do yourself. The Powerline from my experience has great synergy with naim boxes but work less good on non-naim equipment. I haven’t found another power cable yet that is better than Powerline on my naim boxes. Some add “HIFI” to the presentation and sound different but Powerline make the naim boxes sound very together and correct IMO.
Dan, I know what you’re saying, and it’s a lot of money for sure.
But I am not exaggerating when I say this.
It’s the single most obvious, satisfying and clear upgrade that I’ve had in recent times.
Only my Chord DAVE has shown a more obvious change.
It should be thought of in the league of a power amp. power supply, preamp or DAC upgrade as that obvious and pleasurable upgrade.
I was apprehensive at first, it’s had 2 weeks of burn in and I’ve deliberately not listened much at all, sometimes 4 days at a time.
But I’ve been listening today for a few hours and it is simply a wonderful bit of kit. A more Rock solid soundstage, much better PR&T and engaging listen as well as clearer more engaging vocals was the highlight. Opening up the window - wide open actually is what I’m finding.
The only downside is it won’t hide any major shortfalls in your system or poor recordings.
It won’t be unbearable, but it will show it.
If you have a chance, see if you can borrow one to listen for yourself.
I don’t recall whether we discussed it, but ideally you should piggy-back the plugs for your Naim boxes using the tapon plugs directly into a single power point. Piggy-back them using the power amp first, then pre, then source.
Funny I always thought piggy backing was a no no. Also our plugs aren’t the same as the UK (I think).
