Power strip advice please

Me too! This is mine out in the open. I’ve currently got it sitting hidden behind some vinyl in my hifi unit. After making this I got addicted to expensive cables again and spent thousands on Ansuz. They are now gone and this is back in place. Does the job wonderfully.

Edit - this is actually the switched socket version I made for my home office desk setup. I’ve got an unswitched version in place for my hifi! Phew. Nearly committed sacrilege there!

This is turning into a “show us your power strip” so I’ll add one of mine.

metal clad MK, conduit fittings in the knockouts between the boxes hold it together. I added an earth post on this one to ground the amp when not using a Naim source.

As is show your power stuff season ….

In addition to my audio board shown a few pics back, this is my TV board that lives under the Ercol TV cabinet.

I made it way back (cira 2012) when I had TV BRP and other “set top” boxes, now it just the BRP and a digital photo frame thingy.

The sockets are MK set flush in 20mm MDF, wired in Radial (of course)

Cable is the old (original) version of Russ Andrews ‘Yellow’

The ferrite is a Fair-Rite ‘75’ to help suppress SMPS noise.

I make my own using regulation components and decent cable no nonsense :+1:

I found the Matrix 2 only lasted a couple of years before the sockets became faulty. Taking it apart, I was surprised at how poorly assembled it is for the money. I bought a second hand Olson strip and upgraded the internal cable. It is doing a much better job.

I had the same with a Matrix-2. I tried to repair one for someone who used it with an AV setup. Parts and assy methods were very substandard and although I was able to repair it enough for use, he replaced it ASAP.

Chronically poor and sloppy construction.
I wouldn’t plug half of this stuff in. :scream:

What a great solution, it’s hard to think of anything that could improve on it.

I recommend the Custom HiFi Cables / Sean Jacobs power blocks. They are well made, star earthed, good value and sound better than most costing many times the price.

That’s unfortunate Chris.

I have had mine for about 9 years and it has been fine. Others on here use it too with some success.

I’ve made some good experiences with Audioquest NRG-X2 and NRG-Y2. Best price value has the NRG-X2. It’s also more flexible to use compared to the NRG-Y2. And you get a good variety of lengths.

I’m using same device for my AV setup (TV, Soundbar, Subwoofer, Google Chromecast 4k, Blu-ray Player, etc.). Works fine for me.

For HiFi I’m using the Isotek v5 syncro uni 16 and an Audioplan Powerstar S as power strip.

The Matrix 2 looks poorly built for £140

I’m looking at the Olson power blocks as they look well made and made here in the UK too

Say it to @Darkebear . He uses it with S1 and 3x 500 dr, ND555 twin ps. But the 500 dr are connected to the wall.

However, I’m sure you have seen that others have also had a similar experience with the Matrix 2. Skeptikal has shown with his photo how poorly it is constructed. I would expect more for the money. I was very disappointed to see how it looked inside. I think my modified Olsen block makes things sound better than the Matrix 2, as well.

Yes, from the outside looking, it appears badly constructed. Until you discover the hidden code.

You need to try Matrix Resurrection. Great block. It keeps going… :flexed_biceps:
