Power Supply(S) for my 300 system?

Thanks Chris. My dealer will send his tech to install. I had power supplies before. I had the Highcap DR and XPS DR. Are the Bundy issues now different?

Only that there will be 4 of them for two NPX300s which might be a bit messy.

Having listened to the 300 series at my dealers speakers used were the same as I have at home adding the powers supplies made a very worthwhile improvement I would do both well worth if you want to get the bet out of the 332 and 333.

@Jaybar NPX on 332 first if you are making staged purchases. The NPX on the 333 then balances the sound out, maximising the potential of your components.

Ime.

I thought this would be the case when I had to go back to one NPX300 for a while. After trying the NPX on both the 333 and 332, I found that overall I preferred it on the 333. But this might be a result of having the NVC TT powered by the NPX TT, choosing to go this way because it kept both sources in balance SQ-wise, albeit sounding different. I likely would have made a different choice if I didn’t have the NPX TT. My 2 weeks with on 300 convinced me I was right to have two when I upgraded to the 332/333 rather than just sticking with the one I had powering my 222.

I spoke to my dealer who advised me to do this in stages. He advised starting with the 332. He will place the order on Monday. Thanks to everyone who helped.

Why thank them? - you were never going to listen.

Unless I am misunderstanding, your comment is uncalled for.

Unless I am misunderstanding, the pattern is the same every time - glean a ton of advice, tips and experience from the forum followed by “my dealer says x and I therefore do x - over and out” - I’m not sure why you waste people’s time.

There were three different suggestions from members:

Start with the 332
Start with the 333
Do both at the same time.

It is not as if there was a unanimous suggestion. I discussed all the options that members suggested with my dealer BEFORE placing the order.

Yes.

… is not the point. You were never going to contradict the dealer’s advice, you never have, so just speak to him and be done.

Do you remember the take aways from adding 300 to 333? The normal things I’d guess (air, authority, control etc)?

I’m considering my future upgrade path. I doubt I can go for 333/332 all at once to replace my 222 (both on cost and CFO approval grounds).

So my thoughts are: Get an NPX300 first, then decide if adding a 333 is warranted/needed; then replace the 222 with a 332 if desired.

The first step is an obvious one, but the second step of feeding my then 222/300 with a 333 I’m not sure makes SQ sense, especially if I were to stick there.

Anyone done this?

My memory is hazy, but I would say it brought more life to the 333 with more definition/clarity, better soundstage, lower noise floor, the bass is lower and stronger, whilst not being overpowering, and more space between individual notes, you could better hear the different multitracked vocals and harmonies if my memory serves well. But that could be said of the move from a 222 to a 332/333 combination, so I think adding an NPX300 gives the 333 more of what its strengths are.

@MrFixit Adding a 333 to a 222 based system adds redundancy in terms of streaming. I am not even sure if the streaming in the 222 can be turned off. Adding the NPX300 to your 222 and pausing there for a while, to me, makes more sense. If you still want to upgrade after that, wait until funds are available and domestic harmony can prevail and trade in the 222 for the 332/333.

Thanks, but as I understand it the 222 has an analogue DIN input that the 333 can connect to from its DIN output. So as a stepping stone it should work. Whether it makes sense just using a 222/300 as a preamp is of course what I’m asking from anyone who might have tried it.

@MrFixit How do you connect your Meridian CDP?

I use an RCA cable to the digital input 2 of the 222 from the digital out of the Meridian. It sounds better using the DAC of the 222. That said, I have now ripped all my CDs to my NAS and play them using Minimserver to handle UPnP, so I rarely use it now.

Maybe another 2 box expansion alternative:

Trade in the NAP 250 for NAP 350’s. And apply the NPX on either the 332/333 based on your own listening experiences.

Reason I advocate the 250–> swap is that I recently tried the best starting path for a starting 3 to 4 box setup. In my opinion the 350’s instead of a 250 do more for sound then adding 1/2 NPX on a 332/333/250.

Dont know your speakers, the size of your room etc..but i prefered the 222/350/350 above 222/300/250. And the 332/333/350/350 above 332-300/333/250
