I sm thinking of eventually adding an NPX300 to my 332/333/NC250/NCVTT/Luxman CDP system. Should it go on the 332 or 333?
I have room for one NPX300, two NPx300 units or one NPX300 and one PS for the NCVTT. I am current using a Rega P9/Exact which I eventually will upgrade to a Rega MC. Streaming and CDP are my preferred sources.
If you get two NPX300, the NVC TT will also benefit. I have tried a single PS on the 332 and 333 and in the end decided I preferred it on the 333, but that might be because I have the NPX TT. I know others prefer a single NPX to be on the 332. I think in your situation, I would go for two NPX 300s.
As CD is equally important as streaming it makes sense to put the PS on the 332. But as you’re bound to get two eventually, you may as well go for it now.
@HungryHalibut it currently runs about 60’% streaming, 25% CDP and 15% TT. However with the Luxman CDP I find I sm listening a bit more to CDP. With the system 300 the percentages are evolving. I would like to listen to my TT more, but disability makes it hard to get the LP out of the sleeve and jackets. Once I do, I am fine with using the TT.
Based on real users’ experiences (I’ve never heard them) putting an NPX300 on your 332 will make more difference. But bearing in mind your tendency to worry about things, it makes most sense just to buy two now. The 300 that powers your 332 will also mean you get a better power supply for your phono stage by default, so you can forget about the extra power supply for the NVCTT.
As others have said, the power supplies connect to the mains and you remove the mains leads from the 332 and 333. This means that you won’t need any more mains leads or power sockets. The power supplies then connect to the 332 and 332 using Burndy cables, two with each.
Which is why I suggested getting two NPX 300s. In your situation, I think this is the best way forward, and as I said before, the NVC would benefit from the 332 having the power supply.
Discussion of non-Naim Burndies is off limits as they carry power and there is therefore a safety element to their performance. So it’s likely that any responses will be moderated.
Another consideration you should be aware of is that the 300 power supply uses two Burndy cables. These are thick cables that are only available in a fixed length (1.25 metres, I think) so fitting 4 of them behind a relatively low rack has its challenges, possibly requiring the rack to be moved further away from the wall, and maybe looking a bit messy.
I’m sure your dealer would be able to install them, just something you might want to consider.
