Hahahah
I rember going to mates houses and the floors were covered in braided red and black RS wires god knows how the all the weaving affected the resistance to the amp.
Their systems always sounded like you had to imagine the subsonic bass.
What a malarkey I’ve dabbled since mid seventies.
It’s like. ![]()
Nothing wrong with that. Lightly twisted RS 56 strand cable was recommended by Naim back in the day.
There was always plenty of this cable knocking around in the lab when I was an apprentice, so very handy for making up speaker cables.
Yes indeed. That’s exactly what I had - on the strong recommendation of my dealer back then. Used it until NACA4 emerged.
Kimber cable trainees…
I bought a six socket powerbar and it works just fine. Really pleased.
One of it’s plus features is the ability to mount on the wall behind the Fraim about 18" above the skirting. That avoids the rats nest of overlapping cables as they just hang and loop and helps avoid the overlap and proximity to signal cables. IEC plug into the bar is also nice and snug.
Still looking at options and found a new one- anyone here ever try the mark grant 6 way single sockets metal mains block from the mark grant cables website? Looking at the specs it looks like a well made block.
It’s just a cheap busbar power strip with a decent plug on it.
I certainly wouldn’t pay anything like that.
£171.00 ![]()
How do you tell it’s a bussbar strip?
It’s the only way it can be configured in a narrow bar and the claim is only that the connections are cleaned and made a tight fit on the plugs.
They just squeeze the terminals together to make it tight for a few times.
Seen it hundreds of times common practice.
His website says
“Internally wired with 4mm cable and star earthed.”
But, i’d have gone with thin copper bus bars too.
It’s all of a sudden out of stock now here’s the description.
His power cables are 2.5mm2 so there can’t possibly be 4mm2 wiring inside the block.
Never fit inside.
Roll the dice.
I was looking at the full sized bars, they all say out of stock because they are made to order at least that’s what I assumed since it still lets you put them in your cart and it mentions made to order with 10 day dispatch time.
It’s interesting what you have to say about the power lead vs internal wiring.
I sense your frustration and indeed it’s unfortunate if you can’t get a local guy to do it.
It’s really not difficult especially as you have an electrician friend.
To use proper MK sockets and back boxes with a plug and cable costs nothing like these prices and it meets all regulations.
Mostly I’m curious and don’t want to get the wrong thing. Only reason I’m hesitant on the diy is we’ve had a lot of problems with people agreeing to do stuff and then either being lowest priority or disappearing. Had to have a ton done to the house including a full rewire, you’d have a heart attack if you saw what it was like when we bought it. Melted fuse box wires and daisy chained extension leads into different places ![]()
The method I use is all very well for me but unfortunately all these expert dealers depend on the inconvenience to make people pay silly prices.
Supply and Demand.
All blocks are a compromise some are better than others and some stuff is just ![]()
It’s not a bus bar and does have 4mm internal wiring, star earthed. I bought one off eBay last year and it’s well made like the rest of his products.
@dmu I’m not using it now, I’ll post a picture of the internals later
Thanks so much! It’s so hard to know whether they are good quality when you can’t see the insides and only have a minimal description. Only one bar I’ve been looking at posted pictures of the internal wiring and that the puritan purist ps 108 but that’s £575.
Can’t wait to see it. ![]()
That’s a mains purifier.
Not just a block I’d avoid anything filtration or protection circuitry.
